This lighthouse was erected in 1827 when its first lamps were fueled by whale oil; today the buildings and grounds serve as an historical and educational resource for the public to enjoy.
A great spot! We were fortunate to spend about an hour on a mild and sunny day with a breeze kicking up the waves from Lake Ontario. We enjoyed the exhibits in the building that housed the fog horn and looking through the "telescope" out across the lake and the river. It's too bad the area needs to be so fenced in and that walking to the top of the lighthouse is not permitted (as far as we could tell). Maybe in the future the big chain link fence can be replaced with something equally protective of visitors' safety but be much more attractive. In any case, well worth a visit.

Part of the Boldt Castle estate, this site on Wesley Island houses antique wooden boats.
The yacht closes pretty early so check timings before coming. Captain Steve was awesome accommodating for us to take the ferry to Boldt castle and back - amazing day at the yacht house and castle

These are hallowed grounds, the site of some of the most important battles in US history. And it’s well preserved and marked to where it’s easy to learn and appreciate the significance of the site. So we’ll done. And it’s an absolutely beautiful site on Henderson Bay with incredible sunsets over the bay. It perfectly embodies the feel of this quant little historic town.

Thousand Islands Bridge system links Canada and the United States across the St. Lawrence River between the communities of Ivy Lea in Ontario and Collins Landing in New York State. It opened on August 15, 1938 in a ceremony attended by William Lyon Mackenzie King, Prime Minister of Canada, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, President of the United States. Financed and constructed by a public body in New York State known as the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority, the 13.7-kilometre system consists of five bridges (American mainland to Wellesley Island, Wellesley Island to Hill Island, Hill Island to Constance Island, Constance Island to Georgina Island, and Georgina Island to the Canadian mainland) of four different types (continuous truss, steel arch, concrete rigid frame, and suspension). It took 16 months (10 weeks less than expected) and $3,050,000 to build the five green bridges. All bridges carry a lane of traffic in each direction (Interstate 81 from the south and Highway 137 from the north) and pedestrian sidewalks. Fun fact: The bridge linking Wellesley Island to Hill Island is the actual span that crosses the international border. The main span (American mainland to Wellesley Island) is 240 metres long and has 37 metres of underclearance above the river. Mockingly called “the bridge from nowhere to nowhere” by critics in the early years, in excess of two million vehicles now cross the Thousand Islands Bridge system each year. Note that it currently costs $4.00 for a one-way crossing ($3.00 if paid in American currency). Operations of the Thousand Islands Bridge system are shared under a joint agreement between the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority and the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited, a Crown corporation in Canada responsible for international bridges and related structures.

A part of American history and local folklore meet at Singer Castle on Dark Island, located on the St. Lawrence River. Singer Castle is the only remaining/existing castle on our river to be completed, fully furnished and lived in during the heyday of the great builders and industrialists in New York. The castle is open for tours from mid-May - early October. It is also available for overnight stays in the Royal Suite and weddings and special events.
For a unique once in a lifetime experience never to be forgotten, this is it!! After a fabulous tour and dinner, you return to the royal suite to grab your flashlight and explore the entire castle in the dark. Fun. Unique. And all in a beautiful island in the middle of the St Lawrence River.
