Thimphu (/tɪmˈpuː/; Dzongkha: ཐིམ་ཕུ [tʰimpʰu]; formerly spelled as Thimbu or Thimpu) is the capital and largest city of the Kingdom of Bhutan. It is situated in the western central part of Bhutan and the surrounding valley is one of Bhutan's dzongkhags, the Thimphu District. The ancient capital city of Punakha was replaced by Thimphu when it was established as capital in 1955, and in 1961 Thimphu was declared as the capital of the Kingdom of Bhutan by His Majesty the 3rd Druk Gyalpo Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.

A beautiful fortress now converted into a administrative building, and a temple. The Temple is outstanding, the paintings, frescos on the walls are very colourful and have deep meaning. There is a big courtyard behind the temple that holds dance festivals

The Druk Wangyal Lhakhang (temple), built in honour of the fourth Druk Gyalpo (head of the state of Bhutan), Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the open grounds in its front yard is a venue for the annual Dochula Druk Wangyel Festival! This monastery is right in front of the 108 chortens or stupas at Dochu La pass. The entry ticket is 100Nu per person. But I would suggest don't skip and you please buy the ticket and go inside the monastery as its really beautiful and peaceful inside. The painting work on its walls are amazing! Photography is prohibited inside the monastery.
