Designed and built in 1930 by architect Davis Castle, the landmark Paramount Theatre in Abilene, Texas has a rich and significant history. A beautiful example of the nostalgic “atmospheric” movie theatre, it was built in an era when movie-going was meant to be a grand experience that transported you to another time and place. The theatre’s main auditorium space was designed to re-create a Spanish / Moorish courtyard at night, complete with projected clouds passing over a neon-lit night sky fitted with twinkling stars. The Paramount, restored in 1987 and renovated to accommodate live theatre, is now the home to a myriad of events, including film, ballet, opera, and concerts. For over 89 years it has stood the test of time as an entreatment showcase of West Texas.
I love the Paramount and have visited for numerous events/performances. Never been disappointed in this beautifully restored historic theater. They host live theater, live music, movies and a variety of special events. Very reasonably priced concessions located downstairs. A real gem for Abilene!

I have to admit some bias as we've been visiting the Bugle Boy since it opened. This is easily my favorite listening room. Patrons are quiet so you can focus on the music. The bands cover all styles and periods of American popular music. If they don't have who you want to see tonight, they may next weekend. We especially enjoy the singer songwriter events. Lot's of great memories of the Bugle Boy and their volunteer crew. And even though they are closed to walk in guests, they are live streaming performances every Saturday.

The Promise begins on the banks of the Paluxy River in historic Glen Rose, Texas. In the opening scene, a grandfather and his grandchildren, Billy and Lisa, explore the woods and riverbed in search of the dinosaur tracks that have made Somervell County a popular destination for visitors. As the sun sets, they stumble across an old campsite that reminds Grandpa of a story his own grandfather used to tell him in the same spot--the one about the Promise sent by God.As Grandpa begins to sing about the Promised One, the three find themselves among the Old Testament prophets who foretold the coming of Jesus. Immediately, Grandpa, Billy, and Lisa are swept up in the events of Jesus' birth, baptism, temptation, and ministry.Based on Scripture and incorporating the music of award-winning contemporary Christian artists, The Promise brings a modern touch to the most amazing story ever told. Audiences experience a smiling, approachable Jesus who reaches out to people and changes lives. With its sweeping musical score, live animals, and a cast and crew of more than 150 dedicated Christian artists, The Promise is truly the experience of a lifetime. The Promise is performed annually at Texas Amphitheatre--the largest permanent outdoor theatre in the state. With its Greco-Roman design and 3,200 seating capacity, this state-of-the-art facility is unexpectedly intimate, making it the perfect place to experience The Promise. Many features of the Texas Amphitheatre help communicate the story in a modern way--a water-filled moat, rain curtain, lighting truss with 600+ instruments, digital sound system, and more. Audiences truly have an extraordinary experience at The Promise in Glen Rose, Texas. The story of Jesus is timeless. But the season is not. Voted the #1 Escape Room in the United States, Strange Bird Immersive brings you "The Man From Beyond: Houdini Seance Escape Room." We immerse your team from the moment you walk through our door, and take you on an adventure you will never forget. Experience the game that players across the globe say is "worth flying to Houston."
An absolutely transcendent, magical, thrilling, captivating, and (most importantly) human experience. For an escape room enthusiast such as myself who has played almost 200 rooms, this knocked me off my feet. From the set design to the puzzle integration down to the historically researched details of every element of the production, this was a truly revolutionary experience. I am a geek for room flow and design to the point where I often become a "director" in escape rooms, stepping back from puzzle-solving to analyze how every element is flowing and put together. The way "The Man from Beyond" was constructed was so well thought out. The immersive theater aspects did not hinder the "puzzle play" aspects. In fact, the immersive theater portions enhanced the meaning behind why you were solving these strange puzzles in the first place. I never felt as if the actors or story were "getting in the way" of me solving a puzzle. Major props to Strange Bird for thinking through the logistics of their medium to deliver an experience that was anything but frustrating. Strange Bird has definitely created something that will hopefully become part of the industry-standard moving forward. The cast and "crew" were all top-notch and delivered an experience that brought me to tears. Never has the agency I have felt in an escape room led to a payoff as emotionally rich and rewarding as this room. I don't want to spoil the ending, but suffice to say it will make you think about the most important people in your life (living and dead) and appreciate their contribution to your existence. What is real? What is magic? Are those two mutually exclusive? All questions you will grapple with at this remarkable place. I cannot stop thinking about this experience and neither will you. Bravo Strange Bird Immersive!

Guests witness an unbelievable 90-minute performance mere inches from their seat. The program features unexplainable sleight-of-hand magic, feats of the mind, and dazzling piano playing.
What a blast! I've seen his show several times, and it never disappoints! Even when you think you know what's going on, even if you've seen his show before, unexpected events and hilarity always ensue. I love how he engages with the crowd in a very intimate setting, it feels like you're truly at a special VIP event. This is an experience you must have if you're in town visiting! And if you live in Houston, put this on your to-do list already!
