Includes the grave of Howard Hughes
I did not expect such a beautiful and serene cemetery in the middle of Houston. We parked and walked around for about an hour. My 4-year-old really enjoyed looking at all of the mausoleums and angel statues. We enjoyed reading the historical plaques that are scattered throughout the cemetery. There are excellent views of downtown and the large trees provide great shade.

It's FREE! This old Cemetary is beautiful, peaceful and filled with Texas History. Start your trek on the back left side as you enter the Cemetary. Jane Long, The Mother of Texas and Mirabeau Lamar, the 2nd President of the Republic of Texas are buried in that area. Look for the Texas Flag. Polly Ryan is also buried on that same side.

I drove by the cemetery on the way to the park and noticed that there were a lot of large older headstones/family plot markets. Very interesting if you are into architecture or stonemasonary. I am a photographer and plan on returning for a few artistic pictures in the future, respectfully done.
