Volcanic Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea provide the cinema-worthy backdrop for Taormina, Sicily's legendary resort town. Twisting medieval streets and a second-century Greek theater add to its romantic air, which inspired the writings of D.H. Lawrence and Truman Capote. Take a cable car to the beach, or walk uphill behind the Church of St. Joseph for panoramic views.

A high effort and high reward climb. Beautiful views with a particularly nice ending in a peaceful and spiritual place. I hope it stays that way

Nice and quiet location, just off the busy main street. Has several restaurants, which we visited several times. Great spot to sit out on the patio, with a glass of wine and people watch, especially around the fountain.

We happened to be at this church for their Epiphany celebration and even got to follow their procession along the main street to the cathedral all accompanied by muscians playing the local version of bagpipes. Visiting churches is always much more interesting during services and this one was no exception.

This church doesn’t look much from the outside but step inside to see the lovely altar and paintings.

We drove up never-ending cut-backs from the seaside to the mountain village of Taormina. Once inside the town, we were again faced with the challenges of tight spaces and medieval gates. We had booked a stay at a convent converted to a B&B and run by the Sisters of “Daughters of Divine Zeal.” The address had us arriving at the church Church of St. Anthony and the Convent of the Capuchin Friars Minor with no B&B to be seen. After several circling attempts - my wife walked up to the church while I tried to park the car out of the way. After several moments a very welcoming Sister Elvira emerged from the church and directed us into an internal garage. This B&B was another surprise. Spotless. Marble everywhere with a large room with an equally sized private balcony with views of the hillside above and sea below. It made our stay in Taormina very special. The Church itself is modest in size - very similar to the Church of Saint Caterina that sits near the popular Corso Umberto.
