Visit the Flower Homestead, a musher’s homestead tucked away just south of Talkeetna in the Boreal forest of Alaska. Here we live a sustainable life together with the Flower Kennel Sled dogs. The kennel is unique in that the sled dogs are an integral part of our real authentic off-grid Alaskan life. The dogs help with hauling water from our spring, building material and firewood we harvest from our homestead to keep warm and cozy during the Alaska winters. We grow, harvest and gather most of our own food and live a self-reliant lifestyle as much as possible. We are committed to our dogs and the Flower Kennel is their forever home. Our tours are an exclusive opportunity to see how and why we live in the far North. We are a small locally owned operation and our tours are casual and personal. Welcome to our home. After finding the website the previous evening, we decided to visit the kennels when passing near Talkeetna during our northbound drive from Anchorage to Denali Park. A quick phone call to confirm the 11am tour was available, we drove just over 2 hours from Anchorage to the Kennels. Greeted by the sound of dogs barking, we were warmly greeted by Iris at her homestead. Very natural setting and the huskies are housed next to the homestead. After a short introduction she described the dogs and her way of life on the homestead, all very interesting, especially if like me you are normally a city dweller! Later in the tour we were invited for tea & cake in her house, where she was very happy to answer questions about day-to-day life in the wilderness. She also showed us great photos of winter scenes with the dogs and described the daily challenges. If you are looking for a genuine homestead/kennel experience rather than a commercial enterprise, this is definitely for you. An excellent visit - highly recommended!

By far the best day ever and the best experience we have done in Alaska this far! The helicopter tour was breathtaking, and our pilot (Steven) was fun and knowledgeable pointing out wildlife and glaciers along the ride. We had an exhilarating experience mushing the dogs with our guide, Emily! She was very knowledgeable providing us cool facts about the dogs, how they live/eat, and the Iditarod. Isaac was also very helpful and fun to talk to. By far one of the most memorable experiences of my life!! Absolutely recommend!

Dora was super welcoming and very professional. Both my husband and I were simply amazed and in awe of her art. She answered any question we had and gave a little history of the photos we asked about. The products available were calendars, magnets, wall art that could be produced on paper or metal, and I bet there was more but I can’t recall. We received our purchase just yesterday and it is so beautiful. Thank you Dora for such a wonderful visit and gorgeous art!

The people in the office were professional, friendly, and helpful. The pilot provided a lot of great insight to what we were seeing and the views were incredible! The glacier landing is worth the extra money. I would do it again in a heartbeat! I would absolutely recommend this tour and this company to my family and friends. Definitely take some anti motion sickness pills! The pilot did a wonderful job of keeping us smooth, but it’s a little plane and you’ll be taking a ton of pictures. Dramamine kept me from being sick.

This is the only place in Alaska where you can mush your own team of dogs in the summer! This is not a just a tour kennel; it is the training grounds and homestead of 4-time Iditarod champion, Dallas Seavey. All the dogs are either retired racing dogs (many have won the Iditarod), are currently on the race team, or are the next generation in training to become the next great champions! Our dogs are active and training year-round. As a guest musher here, you become part of Dallas Seavey Racing's year-round training program. The group size for this experience is usually 6 or less people, with a guide assigned to each group, creating a very personal experience. All of our dogs are extremely friendly, and love attention. Cuddle puppies, romp with young dogs, or walk with champions.
Inclusions: Mush your own team of sled dogs on our custom dryland race rig, Puppy Walk, Homestead and Kennel Tour
