Was skeptical about this place from outside/location. There's a lot more to it than meets the eyes thou. There is a museum like room with lots of interesting information that both children & adults can enjoy and learn from. then there is the amazing outside area with game fish and a ONE mile trail which takes you through the palm covered swamp area out to beach and back along boardwalks and hard sand covered paths. Would definitely recommend and look forward to going back when in the area again.

We came to the St. Lucie Lock & Dam w/ another couple who has been here before. I was absolutely fascinated as to how the boats come into a lock. The boat come in @ a lower water level, the lock closes, and then the locks fills up w/ water to raise the water level so that the boat can easily continue on its journey. This is something that children would love to see as well as adults. There is no cost & you are able to walk all around the area. The Core of Engineer Campground is right next to this & we checked it out since we are also RVers. This is a great day trip to pack a lunch. You can sit & watch all kinds of boats go through the lock system. I would recommend this experience to the young & old @ heart. Great learning experience!

There is a 2 mile paved bike trail through a section of this park that’s really a lot of fun. We usually see turtles, snakes, crabs, birds. It’s really easy to access right off Dixie highway.

This is a very nice county maintained park. We have a 40ft. Class A motor coach and site 10 allowed us to pull in front first so we could enjoy the Saint Lucie River. The sites are a little close - but per one of the park employees - they are going to close the park in May 2020 to add sewer to all RV sites and add additional sites with more green space between. We did not use the bathrooms. I believe they are going to be updated when the park closes in May. It was fun seeing all the boats going to and from the Saint Lucie River locks. We saw an 8 - 10 ft alligator in the river along with lots of fish jumping out of the water. This is a very nice park and we plan to return later this year. If you want a site to pull front first, call the park to find out the site number. We were in two sites: 8 and D - but I believe the are going to renumber the sites.
