Things to do in Stockholm, Stockholm County: The Best Traveler Resources

June 29, 2021 Russell Mellin

The capital city of Sweden combines modern attractions with historic charm. Kick off your stay with visits to Stockholm’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Royal Palace Drottningholm (the residence of the royal family) and the magical Skogskyrkogården, or Woodland Cemetery. Stroll the cobblestone streets of Old Town and over the picturesque bridges that span the city’s canals. The 19th-century Skansen was the world’s first open-air museum and is still a premier place to learn about Swedish history.

Kungliga Biblioteket

Since I was a child, I've dreamt of seeing an original codex that they talked about on the History Channel. Never did I think it would actually happen. This past weekend I ended up in Stockholm and was SHOCKED to read the Devil's Bible resides there. So straight off the bus from the airport, I walked to this library. I needed to put my coat and backpack into a free locker and I asked two workers where it was. Sure enough, down to stairs in between studying students and behind a glass climate controlling sliding door, there he lay. Beside the physical book, which remains closed for preservation, you can digitally scroll through each page on a screen next to it. For anyone who loves manuscripts, this experience will stick with you for the rest of your life.
