It is a small religious building located adjacent to the Stilo village, on the slopes of Monte Consolino. The term "Cattolica" probably comes from the Greek "Katholikon" which indicates the place of worship of a monastic complex or the cultural center for hermits who lived in the same area. We have walked to the Norman Castello in Stilo a few times now and will probably do again when we go back to the south of Italy. It is a walk not for the faint hearted but well worth the effort as the views are stunning....virtually 360degrees. We also did a night walk to watch the sun rise.......it was a clear night and the stars were abundant/awe inspiring.....what a beautiful place to watch the sun come up.
