I was researching for a trail that would be interesting. I found this Mountain Locks Park. It was amazing. This park follows the second Welland Canal. Sometimes we could see the locks quite well and we saw several waterfalls. Which made my day. Other times we were just walking. At one time we went inside the forest. We saw many huge stones that were used during the Welland Canal. Those stones who were not in water, had lots of graffiti. We had a great exercise and at the same time we found the second Welland Canal. That was worthwhile. A must see!

This wonderful downtown park fell on hard times a few years ago, largely ignored by the City, and gained a reputation as a somewhat dangerous place at night. That was then; this is now. This is a great walk through mature woods, along the first Welland Canal (some of the original wood buttresses are still visible) complete with rapids, blue herons and bridges. The frisbee golf club has helped make the area into a great multi-use park with a broad main walkway and narrower trails through the woods. The park also features a genuine Kwakiutl totem pole brought all the way from BC and erected during Canada's Centennial year. Give this place another chance.
