Things to do in St. Augustine, Florida (FL): The Best Cultural Tours

June 6, 2021 Hector Krause

Saint Augustine is a luxurious, romantic vacation spot—you’ll find classic hotels and intimate restaurants. Those can be a dime a dozen, though. What sets Saint Augustine apart is its history—it’s the oldest European settlement in the U.S. And nowhere else in the world can you taste the waters of the Fountain of Youth Archeological Park (where Ponce de Leon may have landed). Who knows, if you vacation here, maybe you won’t need that Botox!

The harbor tour wasn't that impressive, but the land tour guide took us to see the biggest swimming pool in it's time in the Lightner Museum. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the city, but it was hard to pay attention when there are so many pictures to take. By the way, the morning boat tour wasn't crowded, so there was plenty of room for social distancing if the passengers chose to do so. Masks were required onboard.

I highly recommend viewing the Nights of Lights with Jack Frost! This was our first trip to see the spectacular downtown St Augustine all lit up. It was also our wedding anniversary and this is the absolute best way to view the lights and town. Jack was professional, energetic, interactive with the people and very informative about the town. We had walked around the town square before our tour but Jack took us through several side and back streets which we had not ventured. He took the time to explain several features and histories of many homes and businesses. All the while he had the crowds smiling and dancing in the streets as we went by singing and jamming to the music. I booked the tour at the last minute the night before and we happened to be the only fair during the last time slot. This provided my wife and I a truly private tour. The process of booking was easy and the tour began right on time.
