Kandy is a large city in central Sri Lanka. It's set on a plateau surrounded by mountains, which are home to tea plantations and biodiverse rainforest. The city's heart is scenic Kandy Lake (Bogambara Lake), which is popular for strolling. Kandy is famed for sacred Buddhist sites, including the Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) shrine, celebrated with the grand Esala Perahera annual procession.

Very nice trip! I am portuguese so it was particularly interesting for me to visit the portuguese (not Dutch!!) fort in Gale - this is the place where our brave sailors arrived in 1502. The guide, Mahesh, is very good, friendly and helpful in any way! I do recommend this day trip.

Ashiq Aswar is a superb tour guide! Him and Rizni took my family around on a tour of Colombo that included shopping and then a tour of the outskirts of a bee farm, spice gardens a private tour visiting and riding elephants. We had a great lunch in a clean and air-conditioned restaurant. The van was clean and comfortable. They picked us up and dropped us back. This trip was actually in the early part of last year in spring, but the calendar on Trip Advisor only goes back to summer of last year. They were very attentive, very caring and personable. I would highly recommend Ashiq and Kingfisher tours to anyone visiting Colombo, Sri Lanka ????????

I used them in August 2019 and quite happy with their service. Van driver cum tour guide Danushka was friendly. The price quoted was fair after comparing with 2 other companies. May consider them for Sri Lanka tour . Do agree their response time is slow unless contact them thru Whats App. Happy Touring. LIM

We caught the 8.40am train from Kandy to Nanu Oya as we were staying in Nuwara Eliyia. Nanu Oya is the closet train station. I highly recommend purchasing reserved seats on the train via a travel agent. As we had a four day safari booked I had the company purchase the tickets on my behalf. Cattle class is extremely crowded and it is every man, woman and child for them self. There is no order to boarding - it’s push and shove. There are very few conductors to help. I had requested 2nd class reserved seats but got 3rd class reserved seats instead. When we boarded we were all scattered and people were already sitting in two of our seats. But this is Sri Lanka!!! They do bring snacks around the carriage for purchase. There is one western toilet and a squat toilet in the carriage. Having a reserved seat you can enjoy the beautiful view of the tea plantations and you can also just stand or sit at the doors watching the world go by. It is very noisy. Imagine steel scraping against steel for 4 hours and extremely bumpy. It is certainly an experience and one not to be missed

We booked VTS Lanka for a custom tour of southern and central Sri Lanka and they were excellent. We wanted a driver to take us to all the different locations that we planned to visit while travelling round the country - Yala National Park, Ella and the hill region, Galle, whale watching in Mirissa etc. We arranged things with Vinodh by Whatsapp and the price quoted was amazing value - it included the cost of the activities we wanted to do, like safaris & whale watching, as well as a car and driver, who took us from place to place, showed us all sorts of attractions en route, and stayed the night nearby for the entire time, wherever we went. Our driver, Mr Rohan, seemed to know everything and everyone in Sri Lanka! If we wanted to stop for a bite to eat, he'd take us to a restaurant with a stunning view or overlooking a waterfall, for example. He took care of everything we needed during the trip, ie getting us seats on the fully reserved train from Ella through the mountains, and dealing with locals when we didn't understand. He was so friendly, reliable and smart, and was happy to take long detours to see interesting things. As a couple who are used to exploring places on our own and on foot, having a driver doing everything for us did take a bit of getting used to. Sometimes we just wanted to get to our hotel and explore on our own rather than be shown everything by car. But having a driver allowed us to see many amazing things that we would never known about or be able to get to via public transport. In the final few days of our trip, Mr Rohan took us to two of the most incredible viewpoints I have ever seen in my life, neither of which were in our Lonely Planet guide book. We would highly recommend VTS Lanka - they seem like a lovely team of people with connections all over Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has been a very famous trading hot spot in the world history. Bustling markets, designer boutiques, modern shopping malls and gloriously kitsch souvenir stalls – whatever your holiday shopping style, Sri Lanka has it covered. The famous High grown Ceylon tea, Blue sapphire and Spices are the unique Sri Lankan products that are very famous amongst the tourists. Shopping in Bentota will be a memorable experience compared to other cities in the country.
