Yesterday we travelled to Sremska Mitrovica, a city in Srem, the region of Vojvodina. It took us an hour by the highway Belgrade - Zagreb, to get there. Sometime in the past, these areas belonged to Roman Empire, more precisely in around 250 AD, here ruled some roman emperors. And naturally, first of all, we wanted to see, what it was about, those remained parts of old roman buildings, amphitheatres, basins and other artefacts, now collected in one beautiful building, called Sirmium Palatium Imperiale. It is located very near to the downtown of Sremska Mitrovica, with its City Park, Museum of Srem, the MemorialCemetery - the Alley of Heroes, the footbridge St.Irinej and other cites. Inside the Sirmium Palatium Imperiale we saw the roman coins, sculptures, drawings and pictures, and of course the stone ruins of ancient roman palace, now settled under the roof. Interesting and educative.
