Cat Depot is an amazing experience. The environment is incredible, the cats are housed in secure but open and airy pods, with the little "catios" where the cats can go sit outside and enjoy the Florida tropic climate. The staff consider every adoption on a personal basis and I send the best of all wishes to everyone who has been engaged at Cat Depot and who will be in the future. Thank you for the little kitty heaven you provide.

Located at the Mote Marine Laboratory, this is home to a 135,000 gallon outdoor shark tank and many other marine species.
We went with our 8 and 11 yr olds on a quiet Friday and were very impressed . Lots of content for the pre-tween crowd. Highlights were the boat tour, preserved Giant squid (!), baby shark touch tank and (like many of the otter reviewers) the otters. I loved that the exhibits were very focused on the local ecosystem - not a grab bag of random cool aquatic creatures like some other aquariums we'd visited. Its a legit research lab and it was great seeing real science in action. We added the boat tour which was well worth it - our guide (Martha I think?) was a working biologist with great knowledge and light-hearted funny presentation . Saw some manatees, blue herons, dwarf sea horse (awww), pufferfish, sea squirts. All around fascinating and worthwhile. The volunteers/staff stood out to me as well. We came away learning additional cool facts and details from quite a few of the staff.

The Mission of the Peace River Wildlife Center is to contribute to the survival of native Florida wildlife through rescue, rehabilitation and education. The Center and our gift shop is open to the public for tours everyday from 11a – 4p and our hospital accepts wildlife intakes from 8a – 5p everyday, 7 days per week, 365 days per year including all holidays. We do not charge an admission fee but donations are greatly appreciated and needed to support our mission. Your donations and gift store purchases go directly to the care of our wildlife patients and residents. The PRWC does not receive any federal government support. The costs involved in maintaining these educational displays and to feed almost 120 permanent residents and more than 2,500 patient admissions annually is nearly $80,000 per year. All of the Peace River Wildlife Center’s expenses are met through donations, our recycling program, gift shop sales and small grants. PRWC’s mission is carried out primarily by volunteers
A donation of only $5.00 per adult provides a great opportunity to see many birds being very well cared for, birds who can’t be released into the wild due to various past injuries. We saw bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, barred owls, white and brown pelicans, osprey and many other birds in well maintained and comfortable enclosures which give visitors an up-close look at these beautiful creatures. The volunteers were very helpful and answered all my questions. 82 per cent of all birds brought to the refuge are eventually released back into nature and those who can’t be released serve as refuge ambassadors for their species to help educate young and old alike. The gift shop is awesome; all proceeds go to help care for the birds. We loved this refuge and highly recommend a visit when in Punta Gorda.

Had a lot of fun and met some very caring and compassionate people rescuing and caring for some very interesting and personable animals. Call first and also check out their "Wish List" for things to donate. My Mom brought towels and some cleaning supplies that she had sitting around and we stopped to pick up a few more things on the list. Feels good to help in a small way and where else can you tell a joke to a zebra and make it laugh?

An Old Florida attraction since 1939, Sarasota Jungle Gardens allows visitors to experience things you won't find anywhere else. Feed free-roaming flamingos, watch perform unique behavior, catch lemurs at play, have your picture taken with an alligator. Be sure to visit the Flamingo Cafe for a refreshing lunch or snack. Enjoy one or more of our acclaimed animal shows. Annual events include Jungle Trails and Bunny Tails, every year on Good Friday.
The last time I visited this attraction, I was 10 years old and the macaws bit off the buttons on the back of my dress during the photo op! The gardens today are beautiful and it was relaxing to the paths throughout the park. We enjoyed the bird show and wildlife show, even got to pet an opossum! Excellent shows! The flamingos roam free in their feeding area so be sure to buy a bag or two of flamingo feed and experience the unique hand feeding of the flamingos, a real highlight for me! Parrots perch in a couple of areas and are available for pictures on shoulders or arms at set times. It was fun to see Frosty Sr., an 82 year old Sulphur Crested Cockatoo who has been the star of the show at the park for decades. Frosty is now retired and enjoys watching visitors from his perch area. The gift shop is full of unique items which we enjoyed browsing and buying! A great way to spend a relaxing, entertaining day while learning and interacting with animals and birds!

My child participated in the IMAG's scout merit badge program on archaeology. It was led by Dr. Tiffany Bannworth who holds two doctorate degrees in related fields and was an engaging instructor. The scout merit badge program was well-organized and included four hands-on activities, with a take-home clay project. This program would not only be great for scouts, but also for educational field trips or as a stand-alone family activity. The program was interesting not only for our child, but also for us as adults as well, as Dr. Bannworth kept our attention with relevant videos, latest information in the field, and engaging activities. She is a leader in this field and is passionate about the topic, which makes all the difference in the world. This is a great program for children and one of our favorite scout merit badge programs. Thank you, IMAG for this outstanding enrichment programming lead by such an engaging instructor!
