Wild Wool Gallery is situated at Kepler Mountain View Alpacas, an alpaca farm on the outskirts of Lake Manapouri, Fiordland National Park. Jessie, the proprietor, is a fibre artist who works in her studio on the alapca farm hand felting bespoke fine alpaca wearable art pieces from her alpaca fibre. Visit to view the creations and own one of her unique one off art works.
We stopped by the shop thinking we would get some warm alpaca socks, and it turned into such a lovely, unexpected visit! The owner offered to let us give the alpacas some treats. Each alpaca seemed to have their own personality from the "teenagers" to the ones in the "maternity ward." The owner answered all our questions and is such a warm and friendly person. It was a really neat experience. In the shop, there are beautiful handmade scarves, socks, hats, soaps, etc. We left with some unique gifts and are so happy to have visited here!!

A hand picked collection of the best arts and crafts from Southland and Central Otago. Hand made and unique items from photography, jewellery, ceramics, cards, art and much more. A visit is a must for those travelling to Te Anau and Queenstown. Conveniently located half way between the two towns for a quick stretch and shop.
What a elegant wee shop with brilliant service from Tabatha and the crafts are so creative, would love to go back. Cheers Ben.

Visit the 2 smallest bookshops in New Zealand. The smallest is for children selling second hand books, has a small library, also soft toys that children can take home for sleep overs. The bigger shop specializes in all topics relating to 45 South Degrees and Below. New and second hand, rare and specialist books. Open October through to April.
The two book shops are sweet and have both used and new books. The five star rating though is due to the wonderful owners. Ruth and Lance are very friendly and caring. Ruth shared book suggestions, visited with us, and showed us her foxglove stalk that was nearly at a world record height. (We hope it grew the tadbit more it needed.) We were also there when two stuffed animals were returned by some travelers. Ruth loans out stuffed animals and books to children who are visiting the area. Do stop by the Wee Bookshop when in Manapouri. If the shops don't appear to be open, ring the outside bell the shop closest to the street. Ruth lives on the property and will come out if she is home.

During your trip to the South, the Eastern Southland Gallery is a must see attraction that is suitable for all ages.
This gallery has stunning examples of New Zealand art (Len Lye, Ralph Hotare, Rita Angus) and well as examples of non-western art collected by the Gallery’s benefactor. Free entry. An outstanding collection that you would not imagine could be in a town the size of Gore.
