Clydach Heritage Centre is on the canal towpath in Coedgwilym Park. National Cycle Route 43 runs beside the Centre, along the canal tow-path. Visitors can view: A timeline of Clydach from 1794 (the year construction started on the Swansea Canal) to the present day. The brick chimney constructed with bricks from works across Wales. A dram full of local anthracite coal with coal miners' picks. Canal mileposts showing the distance travelled along the canal in 1/4 mile intervals. Local interest - books, leaflets, walking routes, DVDs and CDs including oral archives of local residents. Portrait bench: as part of the development of Sustrans' National Cycle Route 43, a bench has been erected between the canal and the Centre with three sheet steel portraits of local people. Entrance is free, refreshments including ice cream and Welsh cakes are available to buy.

The World Heritage Centre is situated in Blaenavon itself, within the historic former St. Peter’s Church School, founded in 1816, and is the starting point for your visit to the whole Blaenavon World Heritage Site. The former heavy industries left their mark on the environment, which is full of hidden treasures to be discovered after learning what this incredible valley has to offer. St Peter's School, founded by Sarah Hopkins for the education of iron workers' children was the first school of its type in Wales. The visitor (whether tourist or group organiser) will find information on the World Heritage Site, its history and how it can be viewed today as well as a Tourist Information Centre. The main exhibition follows the words of historical characters so that visitors can gain an insight into the daily lives of ordinary people and understand the changes that they experienced during the 19th century. Self-led visits to explore the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre are free of charge.
We returned to Blaenavon again to visit with our ever expanding family and we again chose the heritage centre as the focal point of the weekend. Locals also eat there so you know what that says about the place. Jackie and the café staff were all great as usual, food was delicious and prices were really good. The welcome all over the town and especially here was heartwarming. So please always pop in for a smile and dish of crumble and custard. We did !! We return in April and November next year..

We come here quite often with the children as its local, perfect place for just getting out and having some fresh air and a walk. Kids love to put their wellies on and explore the woods and trails then spend as long as they can in the park afterwards. Such beautiful scenery and views, and a lovely cafe for a hot chocolate (and maybe a cake) afterwards too. :)

The cafe is now under management as from April 2014.
Very pleasant spot by the canal, nice walks, friendly and helpful cafe (in spite of the rain). Will return when weather improves and take a boat trip.

We had coffee and bacon rolls in the cafeteria before our walk. The service , food and coffee is excellent and sensibly priced and well worth a visit. Then take a walk up the canal heading toward Risca, the towpath is in first class condition with no mud and very easy walking, the views as you approach Risca are magnificent .
