Encompassing two of the Netherlands’ three largest cities (Rotterdam and The Hague), Zuid-Holland (South Holland) is also home to important towns like Leiden, Gouda and Delft. And many lovely smaller towns dot the gorgeous green landscape. Alphen aan den Rijn has several interesting attractions, including Dutch history theme park Archeon. Picturesque Kinderdijk, birthplace of the legend of the Cat and the Cradle, also has many windmills that together are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Great and peaceful walking through the park off castle Duivenvoorden. Enormous oak trees with wild cormorant birds on a stretched branch above the pond. Breathtaking colors of fall throughout the park with the stately castle reflected in the moat. Afterward the walk a nice cold beer can be enjoyed in the restaurant or outside in the garden in comfortable lounge chairs.

We got here by bike from Amsterdam Centraal. It was a lovely weather and the trees in the garden of the Castle gace us some lovely rest from the cycling. There are several lovely plants, flowers, some art is also presented (statues). The café is cozy, they have super ice-ream-smoothies!!! And the peacock!! He is a genue gem in the garden!

Fort Buitensluis is a unique monumental object, located near the river Hollandsch Diep. The fort is certainly worth a visit. The entrance is free. Walking routes have been plotted, on some dates, guided tours are available and you can make a boat trip with the unique landing craft L9512. In the fort you can buy (soft) drinks, and visit our new roof terrace with panoramic views of the surroundings
