What a gem of a campground!! We are so lucky we found it! We were going to stay at a campground right off the highway with full hookups but we decided we really wanted to go to a state park or county park for a little more nature. I found this campground on the AllStays iPad app and we decided to take our chances and book it when we arrived. I did call to ask if they had tonight available as I was driving (a Wednesday) and they did. We arrived at the end of April and we asked if there was availability to stay through Saturday. I told Becky at the entrance that we were flexible and if we had to leave Friday or switch to a different site on Friday that would be okay. She was able to get us a lakefront site at the East Campground! RVs parallel park at the waterfront sites. There is a large lawn area, a fire pit and a picnic table. The bathrooms at the East Campground weren’t open yet (they opened the next day) but the bathrooms at the North and West Campgrounds were open. The hot water did take a while to arrive in the shower (I actually thought they didn’t have hot water at first and after several minutes dove in because I needed a shower and thankfully the water started to warm up mid-shower). The bathrooms are all very clean and bug-free. For Wednesday and Thursday night we were the only campers (besides the hosts and they were in the loop area of the campground) and it was pure bliss. Even when the campground filled up on Friday, it still didn’t feel crowded. The staff is so friendly here - they really make your experience. Becky came to check on us a few times and we enjoyed chatting with her about her family. Then Derek gave us advice on campgrounds at Custer (our next stop) and later he found us to give us a paper map of South Dakota when we talked about losing cell service in some areas of South Dakota. Sioux Falls is about 30 minutes away if you want to shop or visit “town.” The campground hosts told us to check out nearby Canistota for a grocery store but we got everything we needed at Walmart when we were in Sioux Falls.

This place is nestled in the heart of downtown Rapid City, surrounded by the bustle of city life...with the old fashioned fun of ice skating and the perks to go along with it! Have some fun with your family in a small space! Hot beverages, great food, quaint shopping and even a movie theater is all within a two minute walk after the family ice skates in the park surrounded by stone sculptures. Concerts and movies under the stars are featured at the square in the summertime. This is a place you wont want to miss!

I’m so happy I happened upon this hike using the AllTrails app!!! It met all the requirements: doable, no steep hills, swimming in a waterfall, just the right length! Take my advice and DO IT!! Just be prepared to get your feet wet, it’s often easier and more enjoyable to hike in the river/creek itself!

We rented snow mobiles for a day trip and Amy and her husband were wonderful to work with. From helping us through the reservation process to walking us through the trails, answering all of our questions and offering everything you might need to ride for the day (cold weather gear, boots, helmets, etc)... they were wonderful! We would highly recommend checking out what they have to offer.
