Enclosed by ocean, mountains and wine farms, the former fishing village offers a country affair with some adventure thrown in.
Houtbay....a small bay but with lots and lots to do and to see. From a museum to an old fashioned library, to restaurants, pubs, boat trips, flee market at the harbour, to fresh snoek and chips at the harbour, clean seasand for the kids and the oldies to play, good places to stay, all the main shops like Woolies and Pick and Pay to book shops, toy shops, curio shops and very interesting is the shops at harbour with all old "ship stuff". Get place close to harbour to stay....and walk early in themorning and at dusk on the beach. I always go back when I am in Cape Town....just love the place!

We’ve come to Knysna a few times now and love the lagoon. We have stayed at Leisure Isle, up high overlooking the lagoon, the Waterfront and Laguna Grove. Watching the tides come and go as well as the associated wildlife, boats coming and going etc is a delight and a great way to relax. The Heads are spectacular, visit the viewpoints up high to get great views as well as the rocky bits at the lagoon entrance. Eat at one of the many restaurants at Knysna or Thesen which overlook the lagoon for sunset views too.

This estuary is part of the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park and includes fishing, hiking tours, boat tours and a crocodile center. The crocodiles make swimming an ill-advised idea.
We booked on the hippo croc cruise boat at around Mid Day , which was recommended to us as hippos are usually waking up from their sleep around this time. We saw a lot of hippos and only 2 crocodiles and a rare sighting of Hammer bird and then a green falcon which is the fastest bird or animal on earth I believe . True magic! Only irritation was the rude tour guide from a French group of tourists , he was rather rude to other people not included on his tour. Making it unpleasant for others.

Great waves, and friendly locals. Beware of the rip currents when entering the ocean, I would advise that you ask someone that knows the beach setup before you enter it.

I prefer beaches that stretch endlessly along our coast to little pockets of beach that are filled with people, music, umbrellas and ice-cream vendors. Noordhoek is just perfect. It’s worth the drive to get there. Late afternoon welcomes the runners, dog-walkers and even a yoga-enthusiast. There’s plenty of space for everyone to do their thing without encroaching. So peaceful, but not lonely. #KeepItUndiscovered
