Things to do in Sorrento, Campania: The Best Beach & Pool Clubs

October 28, 2021 Almeta Stockton

Land of Mermaids. Land of Orange and Lemon Groves. Land of Colors. This small city in Campania has earned a plethora of alluring names. Famed for its sea cliffs, the town's steep slopes look out over azure waters to Ischia, Capri and the Bay of Naples. The birthplace of Limoncello liqueur offers some good diving, great sea fishing, boat cruises and appetizing restaurants. Excellent hiking trails cross the peninsula. Rent a car or take a taxi if the steep streets look too intimidating.

Leonelli's Beach

We checked out 4 different private beach areas while in Sorrento. IMO this is the best. The trick to these in my experience is to know that you are going to pay probably more than you think is right. Once you get past that, pretty awesome. Dedicated spots with chairs and sunbrella, nice volcanic sand, outstanding swimming area good for all ages, including spots to dive off the rocks, very polite service and pretty good quality food. 2 chairs and umbrella is €28, a gigantic 1L ice cold beer is €12, entrees are either side of €15. You keep your spot as long as you want all day if you choose. Service is right to your spot. Options are right on the sand or on the elevated promenades. Compared to beach spots in other places in the world of course it’s very expensive, but when you see the options that are in Sorrento, it makes sense because the sandy beach spots are very rare.
