Beautiful church and grounds. Our guide took us on a great tour midway between scheduled tour times and was so well informed. Very well done - if you love history and great stories to trigger your imagination - visit this historic site!

1750 Isle of Wight Courthouse

This building served as Isle of Wight County’s courthouse from 1752 until 1800. Curing this time it was the center of county colonial government. Completed in 1752, it is one of only four remaining arcaded colonial court buildings in Virginia and the only colonial courthouse boasting the distinctive semi-circular apse. In 1799, a clerk’s office was constructed adjacent to the courthouse.

Fort Boykin

It's important to read the signs at the front entrance that explain everything as there are not really any signs within the fort area itself. There are nice shady trails to walk. Its a great place to picnic or spend a relaxing day at the small beach on the calm James River. There are picnic tables and bbq grills at the front entrance too. Also, it is dog friendly. There are no buildings to see, but it is an interesting place to visit just because of how old it is and to see the earthworks.
