This small Slovenian gem is as yet undiscovered and virtually unspoilt. The hills are dotted with small vineyards and ancient forests giving it an intoxicating lovelyness that you will find hard to forget. There is a gentle deception of complete isolation, but no more than 10 minutes by car brings you to the village of Podlehnik and the main road for either Croatia, Austria, Hungary or the capital Ljubljana, Ptuj, maribor, Koper and Trieste. There are numerous airports you can choose from to reach us. Maribor is the closest about 40 mins by car. Graz (Austria) 1hr 30mins, Ljubljana 1hrs 30mins, Klagenfurt (Austria) 2hrs and Zagreb (Croatia) about 1hr.Only 20 minutes from the house will bring you to the oldest town in Slovenia town, Ptuj. This lovely old town has 2000 years of history with its romanesque and medieval architecture. Strolling through the old town it's easy to feel a connection with an age long past. But it's a town for people of all ages and tastes with many cafe/bars, resturants and and a large variety of shops and supermarkets. Ptuj also has the largest Terme (thermal spar and water park). The river Drava runs along the southern outskirts of the town and from Ptuj castle you will see the hills of Haloze in the distance. As well as a good selection of local organised recreational activities, hiking and cycling are very popular throughout with many choices of mapped routes. Hiking is becoming a more and more popular way of spending one's free time. The hiking paths in the region offer ideal conditions for walking in the natural environment and among kind people. One of the most popular paths is undoubtedly the Haloze hiking path passing through communities of Zavr?, Cirkulane, Videm, Podlehnik and Majšperk and the castle of Borl all the way to Dona?ka mountain. The entire path is marked by red-and-white carnations and is divided into four stages; each stage requires 3 to 4 hours walkGuests at the thermal baths and wellness centre of Ptuj,(which is the largest in Slovenia) can enjoy themselves in four outdoor pools with a wave machine and a waterslide as well as two indoor pools with a whirlpool and hydrotherapy.Hourse Riding;Whether you are riding for the first time or can already control a horse, riding through beautiful clearings and around the hillsides of the town, riding on the bank of the river Drava or in a horse-drawn carriage, are activities that should not be missed. Horse-riding clubs and some tourist farms offer the opportunity to ride horses whether you are a professional or a beginner.Boating; Water sportsPtuj's lake is the largest artificial lake in Slovenia. Its surface measures 4,1km2. In summer you can rent a kayak or rowing boat by the lake in Ranca or even sail on the lake, either alone or by registering at the school of sailingJust a short walk from the old town is the golf course, which is special for its diverse grounds and numerous water obstacles. Cankarjevo Nabrezje

Reviewed By stinkwink - Sydney, Australia

A beautiful long promenade on the bank the Ljubljanica River with plenty of places to spend your time and money. Here is the Ribji Square with the lovely fountain the Zlata Ribica restaurant, coffees, and bars everywhere, music and the fragrance of the food streaming out to the street, and the river and bridges are giving the romantic background. This part of Ljubljana is always busy, always full of life and seemingly part of it never goes to sleep. A site to visit day and night.
