Things to do in Singapore, Singapore: The Best Shopping

August 22, 2021 Frederic Celentano

The Singapore cityscape looks like it was ripped from the pages of a science fiction comic book. If you’re hungry for a true Singapore experience, sample the myriad street foods or take a cultural cooking class. The Botanic Gardens and the Gardens By the Bay offer a slice of horticultural heaven, and the observation deck of the Sands SkyPark makes you feel like you’re high above the clouds. The banks and walkways along the Singapore River bustle with local activity.

The Arts House

Occupying the almost 200-year-old building that was Singapore's first Parliament House, The Arts House has played an active role in the Singapore arts and creative scene for the past decade. As a centre for writing, writers and ideas, The Arts House supports and presents programmes and festivals that aim to develop and promote literary arts in Singapore.

The Arts House was the former Parliament Building of Singapore. It is a building steeped in history in its own right and well worth a visit. During the Singapore Art Week the chamber became more colourful than ever it has in its history based on a fabric exhibition entitled Justice for All. The exhibition was organised by the celebrated British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shinabare RA. A truly stunning exhibition which was well worth a visit. The lower floor held Marjorie Doggett’s Singapore photography exhibition. A genius with large frame photography long before the digital era. The exhibition is over now but there are ongoing events here. Even without art events the building is worth looking at alone.

Everything about the hotel was perfect. The suite was beautiful and in keeping with the hotels era. The butler service was very good, the staff through out the hotel were attentive, friendly, polite and helpful. The bed comfortable, a pillow menu allowing for a change if desired. An elegant bathroom. Comfortable chairs and a table on the balcony to look at the garden, was very peaceful. Breakfast in the Tiffin Room was extensive and encompassing both eastern and western food, served promptly in lovely surroundings. Altogether a perfect stay for our 50th wedding anniversary. All the little extras to help us celebrate were much appreciated. The pool area was also a popular spot with us, reminiscent of a by gone era.

Raffles City

"Situated in the Civic District close to historic and tourist sites, Raffles City Shopping Centre is a haven for consumers looking for luxury items. Built on the site of a former school (Raffles Institution), Raffles City is downtown shopping at its finest. The mall has a number of luxury and designer stores such as Omega, Thomas Sabo, Cortefiel and Tommy Hilfiger, among others. Here, you’ll also find big department stores like Marks & Spencer and Robinsons, and fashion chains like Topshop, River Island and Skyla. In fact, Raffles City covers most shopping bases with fashion, books, music, sports, toys, eyewear and beauty all available above the City Hall MRT station, which makes getting here all the more convenient. I was in Carlton Hotel for my staycation during my birthday on 5th April 2021 and during in the evening I went to Raffles City Shopping Mall in Singapore I decided to reward myself to buy some stuff for myself. I saw Levi's store from outside the mall and I decided to walk in to buy my first jeans. Honestly, I am not a big fan of jeans outfits or apparel but once I walked into Levi's and suddenly I changed my mind and keep telling to myself why not I should try jeans as part of my casual wear. The highlight of the store is the discounted price of Jeans has been placed in front of the entrance and that is the totally make me walk into the store. By a warm welcome and greetings from Mr. Prince - Store Assistant, he totally such a good person for a recommendation, good in product knowledge, and very helpful. After a few jeans that I trying on and looking for some recommendation, he totally gave his opinion to me which one is more suitable for myself. He shared with me the alteration service also available in their store but needs to pick up a few days later. For this kind of wonderful and tremendous service by Prince, I think he deserved to have these compliments words from me. I will definitely recommend this outlet to all my friends and look out to Prince for any assistance. Regards, Dean Mahamud
