September 22, 2021 Mollie Coke

When the morning light washes over the overgrown temples and ruins of Angkor Wat, a simple Siem Reap sunrise becomes a profound event. The ancient structures are contained within one of the largest religious complexes in the world. The complex and the 12th century Angkor Thom royal city are considered the main reasons to visit Siem Reap. Get a lesson in national history at the Cambodian Cultural Village, and a lesson in bargaining at the Angkor Night Market, a bonanza of shopping stalls, food vendors, and bars.

I strongly recommend not to fly and instead take a private car. The journey provides a unique view of Cambodia. Our driver Davies was first class. He had good english and was very courteous. Davies stopped the car on 2 occasions to see local site, the spider market and Spean Praptos (bridge). The lunch stop was at a good, well priced and clean roadside restaurant.

Our tuktuk driver Sotho was on time and very helpful. We had appetisers in the lovely Mie Cafe, then mains at the Sugar Palm (best amok ever!) followed by dessert in the Instaworthy and fashionable Malis. We had one drink at each place as well, and they were almost as delightful as the courses. All in all, a perfect way to try out Cambodian chefs at the height of their game. We would highly recommend them.

It was a great experience for seeing Angkor temples in the hard time of Covid-19. We booked the package just 12 hours before the tour started and the operator was really quick to respond us. We were actually 4 people with payment of 40s US$, this is the nicest price ever. Great driver with air-conditioned car, Ben was really great and he also giving us some information of Angkor (not just a driver). Thank you Ben and we' will see you again next year.

I loved sitting in the boat and looking out to the rivers and large bodies of water. Seeing people create communities on top of water and work with nature was eye opening. Steven was an excellent tour guide and made the trip feel personal.
