Loved this amazing fountain, the animal sculptures were particularly interesting. It is great that you can walk right up and over it- and as it is so central in the city it is very easy to get there as a tourist or regularly walk past it if you live there. The square it is situated in, is just by the Four Corners and there are lots of beautiful churches very close.

I never thought I would visit such a wonderful place and have this experience. Clear waters rushed from the fountain but what I noticed besides the great work of art were the birds that sat upon it that only made it more natural and lovely and all the people gathered around it. All the while seeing this listening to Ave Maria played over the crowd of people. It is located in a piazza with a clock tower which is animated and beautiful and an old church with paintings and sculptures. All together it was perfect. I'm happy I was able to visit this beautiful place.

This glowing white carrara marble fountain is in perfect condition and stands on one corner of the magnificent Piazza Duomo just in front ( or behind) depending which way one comes from, of the fish market which has to be one of the best fish markets one can hope to visit. The fountain is hemmed in by buildings but this does not distract from its beauty. Flowing under the fountain is an underground river. Our guide told us there used to be 36 canals and now on one side behind the fountain, right beside the entrance to the fish market one can see the Fish Market Fountain with its 7 spouts.

Today the myth of Alfeo and Aretusa lives on in the heart of the island of Ortigia in a pool of fresh water, home to papyrus and ducks, that flows into the salty waters of the Great Harbour of Siracus.
Arethusa’s Pool, at the water edge in Ortygia said to be the reincarnation of a water nymph much in the similar legend of Galatea who was turned into a babbling brook (Acis and Galatea, Polyphemus etc. as in the Handel opera). Just another wonder in this ancient city.

Messina was a nice place to visit. Seeing Neptune’s statue was very interesting. There is not a lot to see in Messina but when you are on cruise it was fine.
