Shaoxing ([ʂâuɕíŋ] ( listen); Chinese: 绍兴) is a prefecture-level city on the southern shore of Hangzhou Bay in eastern Zhejiang province, China. It was formerly known as Kuaiji and Shanyin and abbreviated in Chinese as 越 (Yuè) from the area's former inhabitants. Located on the south bank of the Qiantang River estuary, it borders Ningbo to the east, Taizhou to the southeast, Jinhua to the southwest, and Hangzhou to the west. As of 2010, its population was 4,912,339 inhabitants. Among which, 1,914,683 (Keqiao and Yuecheng districts) lived in the built-up metropolitan area of Hangzhou-Shaoxing, with a total of 8,156,154 inhabitants.

The tour organisers were really accommodating of our changes in timing and we all had a wonderful day out of the city experiencing the natural environment around. Bonnie was a great guide and told us many stories and also lots of additional information on what to see in the different seasons in hangzhou

DO NOT use this tour company if you are not from China. Our experience was nothing but a huge disaster. We ended up paying to literally experience the land on our own and get completely lost and we were not able to enjoy the beauty the rice terraces had to offer. The tour company only gave back half our money after all the struggles we went through and many many emails later.

5. Shaoxing day tour from Hangzhou
Be picked up at Hangzhou hotel lobby / station in the morning, drive to Shaoxing for about one hour. we will follow the custom to have a lake cruise in Black Awning Boat in the inner river of the town. Along the river, you will see the local people’s style of living and the bustling local bazaar. At around noon, you will have lunch in a local restaurant. Then we will continue our trip to visit the Orchid Pavilion and Shenyuan. Shen Garden with the gorgeous classical buildings and bridges and wonderful scenery and famous for the story about poet Lu You and his lover. On a short walk to the Lanting Orchid Pavilion. It is rounded by mighty mountains, trees are flourishing, and bamboos are dense. it is the place calligrapher Wang Xizhi in East Jin Dynasty wrote his masterpiece. Back to Hangzhou after the tour.
