The Hever Castle Golf Club experience is a blend of a terrific golf course in a wonderful part of Kent. The view from the 12 tee, a slight downhill par three, is similar in many ways to the view of the par three 12th hole at Augusta National. I live in the US but I grew up in and around Sevenoaks, attending Sevenoaks School and generally frequenting the area. Much has changed in the intervening years (I am now 54) but, thankfully, The Anchor seems to have been immune. Whether or not you think this is a good thing is up to you, but I love finding pubs like this that still seem to thrive. I came here to meet an old friend from the aforementioned school days and we spent a delightful 4 hours. We whiled away the time sampling the wonderful Kentish Ale and delightfully, playing darts. Why did pubs ever lose their dartboards? It makes such a change to find a games area (there was also a pool table and a games machine in a separate area that also houses the only TV. This is great. It keeps the games and those wanting to watch TV away from the main bar area. It looks as though the TV is reserved for sports, and when the live sports ended this day, it was soon turned off. This is truly a throwback in pubs. You enter through the front door that is in the shape of a crescent, into the small bar where I was promptly greeted by Barry and engaged in conversation whilst awaiting my friend. All the bar staff with whom we interacted were similarly friendly and helpful. We borrowed darts from those kept behind the bar for our game. No frills here and all the better for it - I love places like this and was delighted to find they still exist. In addition to the good ale, they have a decent bar menu and I sampled the steak and ale pie for which they are deservedly renown. It was really excellent. Good solid pub food just topped off the visit, it was great. If you are a fan of the flashy, glitzy Wetherspoon establishments this is not the place for you. There is nothing wrong with them of course, but this is far preferable in my estimation. A lovely afternoon spent here post Christmas

Just had 6 takeaway roast dinners from the Rising Sun in Fawkham Green which were amazing and were even take out and put in my car boot. Service with a smile during these most challenging times for them and the rest of the pubs and restaurants. Please, please support them for Fish and Chips on Friday and Roast on Sunday! Great value for money too, a plateful of succulent roast beef, beautiful roast potatoes and and array colourful, crispy vegetables and very tasty gravy, all for just £10! Having moved to the area a few months ago I've been to The Cask on many occasions and always enjoyed my visit. The locals a friendly and welcoming and Simon the owner knows his beer inside and out, always top class! Cannot recommend enough.

A lovely pub which is sadly due to close on 31st January this year. Visited today with 11 other members of London Clarion Cycle Club on our club run from SE London, we were made to feel extremely welcome by the owner, 3 dogs and the cat. The cask beer was of an excellent quality. Very sad to see this pub closing.

We visited the Royal Oak for a drink whilst out walking. It has just been taken over by the local village and staffed by a very friendly volunteer group and bar manager. Whilst they have yet to employ a full time chef we had a very fresh ham and cheese roll and locally baked chocolate cake. Just the thing to set us up for the afternoon. Will certainly go back. We are aware they have a guest chef in tonight but the pub was fully booked. We have added our names to the mailing list for future events
