I did find the service comfortable and it seems to go "everywhere" in Ponta Delgada... But despite the advert they do have only one trip per hour... but it is plenty as both ways I was alone in the bus...

Me and my girlfriend did a Sete Cidades half day quad bike tour through off-roads around the Azore's lakes. It was splendid! We weren't as experienced with the quad bikes as Filipe, so he started with a lower pace and increased as we got more comfortable. We originally scheduled it to a Thursday morning, but due to the better weather conditions on Wednesday, he suggested us to reschedule it and I'm glad we did! The views were astonishing due to the good weather and Filipe told some really interesting tales and curious facts at the trip pauses. We really liked the experience and encourage others to give it a try! The gist of it: if you're planning to get into all the Sete Cidades viewpoints by car, this is definitely a better call! Jose

Beginning the tour from the South of San Miguel, visit the Ceramica Vieira factory and see how local pottery is made. Witness the cultural process and look around for souvenirs. The next stop takes you up the mountain of Lagoa do Fogo. Then head down to the Caldeira Velha, a small garden where you can bathe yourself in warm water heated by the volcano. Feeling refreshed after the bath, head next to the Ribeira Grande, a city where you can taste several liqueurs produced by Mulher from the Capote Factory. Eat a unique lunch at Lagoa, with their traditionally inspired cuisine. After lunch head out to see more of the natural features of the island. Stop and see the Sete Cidades Volcano, with more magnificent views over various lagoons. The tour will finish at the Augusto Arruda's Pineapple Plantation, where you will be able to see how local pineapples are produced.

We had two great tours (one 'solo' to Furnas and east, one w/ 3 other random couples to Sete Cidades) with Samuel Rego of Greencorner Tours, who grew up on Sao Miguel. Not only knowledgeable he is a great guy to spend a day with, speaking excellent English and a good conversationalist. He was also a good driver, no small thing with mountainous roads. We would highly recommend seeing Sao Miguel with Sam!

This tour starts by visiting the pineapple plantations 'Augusto Arrudo', near Ponta Delgada city, where you will see how the pineapple is produced inside of greenhouses. After the pineapple plantations, you will see the south coast of the island until we arrive to one of the most important viewpoints of this tour - Escalvado Viewpoint - where you will see the most recent eruption that São Miguel island had. After this, you will go to the Sete Cidades volcano and stop in the village itself inside of the crater, where you will see interesting spots. Then, you will go to one of the most iconic viewpoints of the island - Vista do Rei (king's view) - where you will see the striking two-colored lagoon (the blue and green parts)

Inclusions: Bottled water

First the negative - don't do this if you have a serious fear of heights. And if it's cloudy enough that you can't see the peaks from below, don't even bother. Now the positive - however scary some of the trail looks as if it might be from below, it isn't as bad as you expect when you get up to the scary-looking bits. And if you can see the views at all they are wonderful, especially on a very clear day. The trail itself is a mix of different landscapes, first climbing through a mossy gully, then past a green bog full of noisy frogs, then up a bleakly beautiful grassy cone to a lookout point with views for miles, followed by another lookout point with views of a lake, then through heath and bracken, down to some woods around a different lakeside, then a climb up through more woods and lovely plants. It's free, and there is a car park and very clear signage. Take a photo of the map in the car park, you won't need it but it's interesting to look at to see where you are.

We really enjoy this trip ! The guide, Luis, is very nice. He can speak a bit french too which was very helpful. The tour allows you to enjoy a lot of landscapes and some adrenaline too. More in the morning than the afternoon (do not hesitate to take the wine for lunch then !) I would definitely recommend it.
