We booked for the Swan Lake ballet on 25 December 2019, with travel date on 24 May 2020, through U Visit Russia. . Due to the Covit19 pandemic we were unable to visit Russia nor attend the ballet. Two tickets were purchased for US$465.50. U Visit Russia was advised of not being able to attend and agreed to pay a full refund but there would be a delay due to the number of cancellations. After some time no refund was forthcoming and U Visit Russia was again contacted by email and we were advised that due to the volume of cancellations the refund would be credited to our credit card within 9 weeks. Nothing and again they were contacted by email but no response was ever received. No refund was ever received. Nothing!! The lesson is to beware of ever dealing with this company.

I had an excellent tour with Nikita. He met me in the lobby of my hotel and the tour began as soon as we left. Nikita is very knowledgeable and was able to give me the history of various buildings and neighborhoods as we walked around Moscow. He also gave me insights on life in present day Russia. The wonderful food started at a market where we tried Russian cheese and crepes. We then walked to a monastery and had pastry and tea. We stopped along the way so Nikita could tell me about the history of a building or place. The final stop involved delicious Siberian dumplings. My three-hour tour flew by. It was the perfect combination of food, history, and culture. It was also just the right amount of food for me. We finished at 6:00 pm and I didn’t need dinner that evening. Nikita followed-up afterwards with recommendations for shopping and restaurants during my remaining time in Moscow. I highly recommend this tour.

9. Mystery of Sergiev Posad and its churches

Sergiyev Posad, Moscow Oblast, Russia

Sergiev Posad is a very unusual city. It is at the same time the spiritual center of the Russian state, a symbol of the Orthodox faith and a monument to the national history of the XIX - early XX centuries. The traditional medieval history and topography of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra is well known, it roams from textbook to textbook and has managed to turn into an apocrypha. On the other hand, this fascinating tale is full of white spots: the life of this settlement outside the church walls in the XVIII-XIX centuries, the ups and downs of the patriarchy in the last 50 years of the Russian Empire, the Soviet “Zagorsky” period, the wanderings of P.A. Florensky and VV Rozanova, and, finally, our modernity with you, in something more fascinating than the old antiquity. I will try to talk about the church and secular history of the city, taking unbeaten routes and turning to the inquisitive minds of interlocutors. See you!
