The Isenschnibbe Barn Memorial Gardelegen commemorates the massacre of 13 April 1945 in which 1,016 concentration camp inmates were murdered in a barn a few weeks before the end of the war. Over the coming years, it will be transformed into a modern memorial site and a place of learning: Saxony-Anhalt supports a visitor and documentation centre, a permanent exhibition and educational offers. The grounds are open to visitors during daytime hours. Guided tours are available by previous arrangement.
This is a decent place of last rest of the Gardelegen's massacre victims. I visited it on Saturday evening and was the only visitor. It was so peaceful and solemn. It is possible to walk here from the town. There is a hiking trail leading through the town up to the memorial and back. It takes about 1 hour to get here. I chose to come by car. There is a big well maintained parking lot just a few steps from entrance. The visitors centre is only open on working days and last Sunday in the month. But currently is closed at all and is planed to be reopen in autumn. The memorial and cemetery are freely accessible and there are plenty of information panels so one can get enough details about what happened here. Therefore it makes to come any time, there is no need to wait for visitors centre to be opened.

This is a most interesting, enwalled cemetery, good to spend some time there and look at the early modern arrangement of graves and epitaphs.
