Schweitzer Mountain Resort

Mountain and ski area located in northern Idaho.

We did 9 days here of snowboarding for a family of 5, second year here after discovering it from our family who lives nearby. Great staff, very friendly and fun. Stayed at the White Pine Lodge. My kids did the runs by themselves all day. Excellent prices if you book online lift tickets. Good cafeteria on site with delicious burgers, fries, drinks. My 10 year old got stuck by herself in an area hard to get out of, and a staff member pulled her by his ski pole to the run area for safety. She also have no crowds except during weekend peak times. I just wish the Musical Chairs chair would go slower upon getting off, I kept falling! The other lifts are fast and almost stop to allow you to get off easily. The area is known for excellent snow, no crowds, and good variety of runs. This place is a hidden gem.

We phoned for reservations a few days ahead and spoke with Matt. He checked the weather out for us and suggested we come a day earlier as it seemed like it may be a better day. Once there,we were told Suzanne would be our guide and that there were 3 other guests joining in the ride. Suzanne took the time to know each of our riding skills and experience and paired us up with the approipriate horse. She was very patience with the group and made sure we were all off to a great start. Throughout the ride, Suzanne gave us all kinds of information about the area, the horses and tips on riding. We had a great time and would definitely call on Mountain Horse Adventures again when we go riding in the Idaho area. Thank you Suzanne, for the great ride, sharing your knowledge with us and helping make it a very enjoyable day.

McKinnick Trail

Probably the best thing about McKinnick Trail is its proximity to town, as in, it's basically in town. The second best thing is that, as others have said, you can get a nice view overlooking town within the first mile or so. We didn't think it was "very steep" or "challenging," etc., but I suppose it's a bit uphill ;) (At least on the way, ahem, up). The trail was well-maintained and easy to follow, and there was a decent-sized parking lot at the trail head.

Serenity Lee Trail

Reviewed By CrankingChick - Tucson, United States

This paved multi-use trail follows US95 for about 5 miles between Sandpoint and Sagle. Two miles of the trail is elevated on the "pedestrian long bridge" across the Pend Oreille River, offering wonderful views of the river and Lake Pend Oreille. We visited in July and parked at City Beach in downtown Sandpoint, then we ate lunch at one of the cafes on 1st Ave. Next we walked to the trail head behind the Bonner County Courthouse (215 S. 1st Ave.). The trail begins next to a historic power house. We then followed the trail south onto a peninsula and the US95 bridge. The paved surface is wide and suitable for bicycles, wheelchairs, strollers, etc. Some educational signs along the way explain the geography of the area. There are even a couple of local bicycle shops in Sandpoint where you can rent a bike if you don't have your own; inquire at Greasy Fingers on N. 3rd Ave.
