Five of us went to the Marrakech for an evening of preformance art. We had no idea that we were going to be treated to an evening of laughter, wonderment and "Magic". This is not the usual "magic" show that we often see on tv, or other venues. Jay Alexander provided us with an insider's view of how one perceives information and processes it. He explained that trickery, lie detection and psychology play a huge role in his brand of "magic".The performance is held at a historic speakeasy that is decorated in the Moroccan style. While we awaited the performance, we enjoyed drinks and Moroccan appetizers in the outer lounge. Jay entertainained the seated patrons with card tricks that were a wonderful prelude to the actual show in the theater. That short period merely piqued our interest for the second half of the evenings entertainment! Space is limited for the Thursday thru Saturday double shows at 6:30 and 9:00 PM performances. There is one show on Sunday at 6:30 PM the doors open promptly at 5:30 PM for the pre show amusement and snacks, etc. Tickets for General Admission were $55 pp. and $65 for front row. It was well worth every penny for the laughs, wonder and the experience of listening and watching Jay Alexander share his love and passion for "illusions".

We kept being surprised when we'd finish a puzzle and another wall would fall down and a new room would open up. Most rooms seem to have 2 rooms--I think there were something around four here! Puzzles were not over the top challenge-wise and while I think there may have been one element that wasn't quite working our guide stopped by and either fixed it for us or forced it into the next stage. Details were amazing, everything felt well designed, the room definitely encouraged teamwork and there was a nice mix of mental and physical puzzles--would definitely recommend! Even if it is pricier than the typical escape room, it sets a very high standard. We also made it through several sets of almost fake endings--suspect most groups will be able to escape in the nick of time :D

My wife and I spend Christmas 2019 in San Francisco. The Castro Theatre and our our time in the Castro area was a definite highlight. We saw a viewing of "It's a Wonderful Life" just before Christmas and then a sing-a-long of "The Sound of Music" on boxing day. The theatre is gorgeous and well kept in its original style (see photos). You really feel like you've stepped back into its history as soon as you enter the theatre. An organist performs about 10 minutes before showtime on a hovering riser that can't be missed. Come early so you can check out the memorabilia on the walls and take in the beauty of this historical landmark. The only negative about our experience was that the popcorn was stale and flavorless. Boo! Note: If your movie has an intermission or it's a double feature (which many are) you'll have about 15 mins. to motor down to a nearby bar for an in-between movie drink. I recommend Harvey's. All-in-all the Castro Theatre was a highlight of our stay in San Francisco and a must do.

Pacific Heights park bordered by Washington, Sacramento, Gough and Laguna Streets.
Pacific Heights in San Francisco boasts of two parks, Lafayette and Alta Plaza, which are walking distance to each other. Lafayette is a beautifully designed and landscaped park. It is visually very pleasing. The trees, plants, grounds, pathways and benches are integrated as a whole. The north side has a wonderful view of the bay, and Washington Street is lined with the most beautiful and graceful residential apartment buildings in the city. You will also find mansions of different architectural styles like the famed Beaux-Art white mansion of Danielle Steel. There are tennis courts and children's playground. But the whole place comes alive the best on a warm and sunny week-end. Families, friends, neighbors and visitors enjoy the sun and each other's company. Pacific Heights is a Tier-One neighborhood and it has a Tier-One park, Lafayette.

You get a more from-the-side view of the bridge from here compared to most other spots, plus the city in the background and ocean to the right. Battery Spencer is also neat to explore, especially with younger kids. Dress warm though. We drove here, and the drive was just as amazing - from SF, you get off to the right, then get to drive through a small tunnel then up and along a winding route zigzagging along the hills.

On a first trip to San Francisco, this ended up being the highlight and stand out of the trip amidst many amazing restaurants, bars, and tourist attractions. Though it was very crowded, we ordered drinks for our group of 4 and waited until the indoor mini golf course opened back up. It is a tight and crowded space in a lovely Victorian row house in the Mission District and waits at the holes did get backed up but not too bad. The 14 hole course was so inventive, locally themed, and intricate that each hole was so interesting and often at first perplexing to find out which paths your balls could take and where they would pop out and where the actual hole was. I can't believe all the details and engineering that must have gone into this and we loved the course ranging from Duck shoot theme to electronic space video game theme to Day of the Dead themed to octopus under the sea themed to San Francisco earthquake themed and everything in between. There is a full service bar with beer, wine, and cocktails and it is cool that you can take your drinks along the way (a small countertop table at each hole) and there were people of all ages there including families with small kids and babies along with the 20s and 30s groups and couples. It is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening in San Francisco and I would definitely recommend this place because it was so detailed and eclectic and unlike any mini golf course I have ever seen. Great concept and only thing would be how to control the queues in the small spaces.
