Five of us went to the Marrakech for an evening of preformance art. We had no idea that we were going to be treated to an evening of laughter, wonderment and "Magic". This is not the usual "magic" show that we often see on tv, or other venues. Jay Alexander provided us with an insider's view of how one perceives information and processes it. He explained that trickery, lie detection and psychology play a huge role in his brand of "magic".The performance is held at a historic speakeasy that is decorated in the Moroccan style. While we awaited the performance, we enjoyed drinks and Moroccan appetizers in the outer lounge. Jay entertainained the seated patrons with card tricks that were a wonderful prelude to the actual show in the theater. That short period merely piqued our interest for the second half of the evenings entertainment! Space is limited for the Thursday thru Saturday double shows at 6:30 and 9:00 PM performances. There is one show on Sunday at 6:30 PM the doors open promptly at 5:30 PM for the pre show amusement and snacks, etc. Tickets for General Admission were $55 pp. and $65 for front row. It was well worth every penny for the laughs, wonder and the experience of listening and watching Jay Alexander share his love and passion for "illusions".

In San Fran for one night with my sister and looked up local improv and could NOT have had more fun. The performers were great, the service and bar amazing and there was an after show piano performance that topped the night off! I will definitely be back!

Cheaper Than Therapy

Stand-up comedy every weekend! Come see it on Thursdays at 9pm, Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm or 10pm, and Sundays at 7pm. Full bar, cheap drinks, and never any drink minimum. Regulars Jon Allen and Scott Simpson are joined the best comedians from around the Bay Area and beyond. The show is only suitable for 18 and over, due to the nature of the content. (Hey, it's a comedy club!) The show always ends in time to catch the BART. After the show, we all get together and go to a nearby bar to continue the festivities and answer questions about comedy. It's a great way to continue the party and make some new friends! Shows often sell out, so purchasing tickets in advance through the website is advised.

This show is a well-curated rotating cast of comedians, so it always feels fresh. I've been multiple times with different groups of friends over the years. The intimacy of the small stage makes the experience more immersive, you can really see, hear, and smell the comedy! I live locally and I keep coming back because it truly is cheaper than therapy.

The Setup: Stand Up Comedy

The Setup is an underground stand-up comedy show in the heart of San Francisco. This venue used to be the green room for the legendary Blackhawk jazz venue. Miles Davis used to snort coke in this room. That's comedy feng shui. We feature established comedians from around the country as well as local up-and-coming stars. San Francisco is known for indulging and incubating the absurd whims, oddities, and genius of the freaks who call it home. Think Lenny Bruce, Robin Williams, and Margaret Cho. In this crazy spirit, The Setup provides a truly unique and memorable San Francisco comedy experience. The show is every Saturday. The bar opens at 7pm, and show starts at 8pm. Come early for cheap drinks and great seats.
