The Family History Library has the largest collection of genealogical information in one place. The focus of the Family History Library is to help guests make personal family discoveries.
We were with the Ancestry Seekers group for a week of genealogy sleuthing, mostly for my husband's ancestors. He is a novice but received excellent assistance from the LDS volunteers and the Ancestry Seekers experts as well. The building is modern, clean, and state-of-the-art with many resources for family record searches. I can't say enough great things about the Elders and the Sisters at the Family History Library -- they are helpful and readily available at all times. It is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays (no sure about Saturday hours, but I believe they are closed on Sunday. You can even request a FREE print-out of your family tree (a FAN chart), which is HUGE -- 24" x 36" and is a 9-generational chart! We were so grateful to all of the wonderful volunteers there.

Nice place to stop and look around. The building has unique architecture and is great for walking through and enjoying the scenery. A cool glass elevator takes you up to the rooftop garden and there are shops to browse.

This visitor center is located between the Tabernacle and the Conference Center. Its exhibits and information are completely different from that of the South Visitor Center. There are volunteers to assist you and answer your questions. You will definitely want to see the impressive 11-foot marble stature of Christ. From the ground level you walk up a spiral ramp to the statue and its own area. Comfortable chairs are available so you can rest and contemplate if you wish. On the ground level is a 14 square foot interactive scale model/map of 1st Century Jerusalem. Here also is original artwork depicting events in the life of Christ. In the lower level are exhibits and art dealing with Prophets of The Book of Mormon from 6,000 B.C. to Joseph Smith. Films and videos are shown here. The visitor center offers cold water and exceptionally clean restrooms.
