This is a trip to the beaches on the western side of Salalah. Fazayah Beach (also spelled as Al-Fazaiah or Al-Fizayah) is one of the best beaches in Oman. Its a 5 kilometers long pristine white sand beach with clear water and a stunning landscape at the back-ground. Experienced driver in 4x4 vehicle will take you there. It's a pristine beach for swimming and picnic. The journey of Salalah is incomplete without a trip to white sand beaches of Mughsayl and the blowholes overlooking Marneef cave. The blowholes are also referred as Mughsayl Natural Fountains by the tourists. The water jet from the blowholes vary according to the season, but can get as high as 28m in the sky in Khareef season. This is a unique trek in the Middle East where you start your walk from beach and go up to a cave and end up at blowholes.

My wife and I did the 5 hour West Salalah tour with Karel Tomastik on 8 February 2020. Pick up time was 9am and he arrived at our hotel right on time. It was a surprise to us that Karel was Czech. My wife is Czech too so they conversed in Czech occasionally during our trip. Karel also speaks perfect English and Arabic. He has a Master's degree from Charles University in Prague, in Arabic language and History of the Middle East. Karel was excellent in his knowledge of all the areas we visited, and we appreciated his additional commentary while driving about the history of the region. His driving was excellent and the car we travelled in was clean, comfortable, and in excellent condition. Karel didn't rush us at all, letting us explore the places at our leisure, considering we had to be back at our hotel at 2pm so we could shower, clean up, and check out by 2.30pm. We stopped off at the Al Hafa Fort Market where my wife bought a cashmere scarf and we also bought some Frankincense products. We arrived back at our hotel at 2pm. Overall, excellent tour and we appreciated Karel for his knowledge, driving, commentary, and not rushing us. We recommend Takamui Travel for your Salalah tours.

Had a great day exploring East Salalah with Ahmed, the company owner who this time was also my guide, driver, and travel companion as I was his only guest! Ahmed picked me up on time at the dot, but from here, he's very flexible and would happily accommodate some extra time sightseeing or taking pictures and not once did I feel rushed during the trip. We started with a visit to a coconut & banana farm where we had freshly cut young coconut and bananas. The next stop was Taqah. Unfortunately both the castle and watchtower were closed), but then he drove me to a cliff with one of the most gorgeous views and he set up a mini breakfast of local pastries for me. Then we drove to Sumhuram to see one of the most important frankincense trading ports some one thousand years ago, then on to Mirbat to see Bin Ali Tomb, Mirbat Castle, and the fish market (it wasn't really special but I had fun posing for pictures with lobsters and a tuna!) From here, we passed by the anti gravity point and climbed to Samhan (the highest mountain in Dhofar). It was already a long day at this point, but Ahmed insisted that we see Wadi Darbat natural pools. I was a bit skeptical as this was not the season to see natural pools, but of course Ahmed knew what he was talking about! We didn't swim there BUT he took me to a big waterfall nearby with a crystal clear turquoise pool where we took a dip in the cool, calm water. What's best is there was hardly anyone around at any of the spots mentioned above (we were the only ones in Sumhuram, both castles, the tomb, and the waterfall - and there were maybe just another 5 other tourists at Samhan View Point). Yes, the khareef/monsoon season is probably the best season to visit Salalah, but if you don't mind not seeing a "green Salalah", you can still enjoy A LOT of things in this region outside of khareef. In fact, during khareef you'll have limited visibility (due to fogs) and lots of rains (which is cool and nice but not when you have limited time for sightseeing like me). And when you decide to visit Salalah, don't hesitate to contact Ahmed. He's one of the most accommodating guides I've ever encountered and I've visited hundreds of cities in over 40 countries :)
