The Saarland (German: das Saarland, pronounced [das ˈzaːɐ̯lant]; French: la Sarre [la saʁ]) is one of the sixteen states (or Bundesländer) of the Federal Republic of Germany. With its capital at Saarbrücken, it has an area of 2,570 km² and its population (as of 30 April 2012) is approximately 1,012,000. In terms of both area and population size – apart from the city-states of Berlin, Bremen and Hamburg – it is Germany's smallest state. The wealth of its coal deposits and their large-scale industrial exploitation, coupled with its location on the border between France and Germany, have given the Saarland a unique history in modern times.

Loved doing the treetop path and reaching the vantage point with the pictured view! It is a fairly simple path that took less than an hour. There are surrounding trails for further hiking. Loved it - highly recommend!

This was a one-of-a-kind experience in Merzig. Seeing differnet types of wolves in giant natrual enclosures and hearing comments from the two people taking care of them gives you a totally new perspective of these amazing creatures well worth to be protected and not hunted down!

A bit like an English country park lake but much more developed and interesting. Boating hire, cycle hire with lots of different bike choices, even golf cart hire. Large grass area with beach, diving platforms and water slide. Great place to spend an afternoon I. Summer.Entry is €4pp. Bars and restaurants as well open till 10.00pm in summer. Lake takes about 1hr 20mins to walk round on a flat level path.
