Rome wasn't built in a day--and you'll need much more than a day to take in this timeless city. The city is a real-life collage of piazzas, open-air markets, and astonishing historic sites. Toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain, contemplate the Colosseum and the Pantheon, and sample a perfect espresso or gelato before spending an afternoon shopping at the Campo de’Fiori or Via Veneto. Enjoy some of the most memorable meals of your life here, too, from fresh pasta to succulent fried artichokes or a tender oxtail stew.

As you come down the road from the Piazzale Garibaldi towards St. Peters, you will come across this beautiful lighthouse. It is odd to see this lighthouse on top of the Gianicolo Hill. It was built in 1911 as a gift from Italians living in Argentina. The structure is also known as the Manfredi lighthouse, after its creator Manfredo Manfredi.

Well worth spending a few moments whilst exploring the Janiculum Hill area (which is a fabulous area to explore with amazing views across the city) I would also suggest doing a little reading on the history of the memorial before visiting. The Mausoleum Ossuary Garibaldi which is a very impressive war memorial and contains the remains of those who died in battles defending the Roman Republic and is situated near the site where the Roman army led by Giuseppe Garibaldi bravely defended to Roman Republic on Janiculum Hill.
