Rome wasn't built in a day--and you'll need much more than a day to take in this timeless city. The city is a real-life collage of piazzas, open-air markets, and astonishing historic sites. Toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain, contemplate the Colosseum and the Pantheon, and sample a perfect espresso or gelato before spending an afternoon shopping at the Campo de’Fiori or Via Veneto. Enjoy some of the most memorable meals of your life here, too, from fresh pasta to succulent fried artichokes or a tender oxtail stew.

A beautiful fountain built in travertine by the sculptor Pietro Lombardi in 1927. It is situated o n the pavement next to the colonnade of the majestic St. Peter's Basilica. On a solid three-sided base there are three semicircular shell-shaped trays that collect water poured through three spouts, placed in the upper part of the three St. Peter's keys and topped with three papal tiaras, crowned with the fourth. One of the many small fountains you can encounter while walking through Rome. This fountain is perfectly functional due to its special shape and quenches the thirst of many tourists and pilgrims every day.

I think since there are possibly only about 3 entrances (northeast corner) through the enormous wall around Vatican City, this Gate seems even more Grand. As I approached this gate walking down Via di Porta Angelica, I had a feeling I was getting ready to see something really big. I was not let down. There are about 4 rows of columns and “BLAM”, you are actually standing in St. Peter’s Square. There is one problem. You check in here for the Vatican Museum Tour, but then walk about a mile around the outside of the wall to the north side to see The Vatican Museum. It appears to be the only entrance for the Vatican Museum. Good luck!
