Preservation of the lighthouses along the Norwegian coast is one of the Norwegian Coastal Directory's target areas, as these are an important element in Norwegian coastal culture. We start this tour from the main harbour in Stavanger. The first part of the tour gives a good idea how the Norwegian live in this area and you will most likely meet quite a few spending a summer day on board their pleasure boats. Tungenes Lighthouse is situated on the mainland, approximately 13 km north of Stavanger. It was built in 1828 and was one of the few lighthouses with a road connection. There is today a Lighthouse Museum in one of the buildings. In the lighthouse keeper's building we now find a café and an art collection with paintings of Oskar Sorreime, a local artist know for his paints from the Jaeren region.
