The landscape of Rodrigues Island is a dramatic combination of mountains, valleys, lagoons and cave systems. A guided exploration of the Caverne Patate reveals playful rock formations that were created by tectonic plate movement. Above ground, the François Leguat Giant Tortoise and Cave Reserve will acquaint you with the island’s rarest plants and most laid-back residents. Hike the central Mont Limon for majestic panoramic views or dive among intricate coral reefs. Get up early to visit Port Mathurin on market day, when the otherwise sleepy village springs to life.

Despite or thanks to the vicinity of a cyclone and the bad weather that came along, we had the luck to have an almost private tour at the Grande Montagne Nature Reserve, a vast area of forest, managed by the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation. The goal is to restore the forest as much as possible into it's original state, how it was before man came and destroyed much of the vegetation and many of the unique endemic animals and birds that lived in it. The tour takes you through only a small part of this huge project but it's very informative and our guide Stephane was so passionate and knowledgable about his work, it was very inspiring. All the revenues of the visits and the little shop were you can buy souvenirs, go towards the replanting and maintenance of the Reserve and I hope they can restore as much forest as possible. It must be so wonderful to come back here in a couple of years and see how the forest has grown and matured. Besides the rare and endemic plants you also get to encounter some of the few remaining endemic birds of Rodrigues, like the yellow Rodrigues Fody and Warbler, and the Rodrigues fruitbat, and there are a number of Aldabra giant tortoises released in the woods which you are very likely to encounter along the way. Also the path takes you up to very nice viewpoint were you have a stunning view over the still very wild and green Eastern coast. Overal a wonderful visit, and highly recommended if you want to get a feel of how this beautiful island once looked.

Must visit. You walk with tortoises. Learnt a lot from the guide.Grande caverne is included; one can see the caves from near and the path used is better especially for elderly people.

Hike along rocky cliffs to this pristine, uncrowded beach tucked between two jagged cliffs on the eastern side of Rodrigues Island.
Peaceful and quiet place. Good for a morning walk .. Even kids can walk. Fresh air. Pathway has been marked so no worry of getting lost.

L'ile aux cocos est une reserve d'oiseaux bordée de sable blanc et de mer turquoise. En été des milliers d'oiseaux marins y pondent . In lieu idyllique certe mais préservée comme un trésor...
Ile aux cocos is a must-visit when in Rodrigues! Gorgeous, amazing, sandy beaches and beautiful birds on the island! Book a boat tour including lunch and you're set for an amazing time! When the tide is low, you can even get off the boat and walk on the sand while in the ocean!

Truly magnificent natural formations. A definite must go, if you visit Rodrigues . The guide was very informative and was very poetic in the description of all the wonders that we can observe under the torch light. A natural story teller, who can make you travel around the world while prompting your imagination. Learned a lot on the geological history of the caves and their ecosystem. One of the world's wonder that needs to be preserved at all cost.
