Amboseli is set on the Kenyan plains with Mt Kilimanjaro as a backdrop in the distance, the park is world-famous for its substantial population of African Elephants which can be seen in herds of over 100 individuals. In particular the large bull elephants have some of the largest tusks in the animal kingdom. Also to be spotted are ample herds of buffalo, wildebeest, zebra and impala, as well as giraffes and warthog. With all this variety you can be sure a healthy population of predators also call Amboseli home. Lions, leopards, caracals, cheetahs, jackals, hyenas and serval cats are all frequently seen in the park.

Wonderful View of the Great Rift Valley,8 Km Hike and Bird Watching. A great way to keep fit and improve your fitness level. A good must do thrill. Pickup from the Hotel at 6:00am and head to Mt. Longonot as the sun is rising from the floor of the Great Rift Valley, like a monolith is the extinct volcano of Mount Longonot. Arrive at Mt. Longonot at around 7am for a unique feature is the thick forest that lies within the crater of the mountain. The crater rim also provides great scenic views across the beautiful Rift Valley all the way to Lake Naivasha. In Mount Longonot National Park, set out on the 4-mile (6.4-kilometer), round-trip hike to the edge of the crater, with the option to extend the hike an additional 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers), walking all the way around the crater rim. I was lucky enough to find Julius of Wasili Kenya Safaris and I am so very glad I did. I have traveled to two parks with him including Nairobi National Park and Amboseli National Park on a different trip. After my first trip with Julius, I realized what an incredible and knowledgeable safari guide he was and was lucky enough to book with him an overnight trip to Amboseli. He knew everything answer to every question I had, he knew where to find the animals and where they would be at dawn and dusk. Julius always position his vehicle so that I would have the best view and photo opportunity. I have amazing photographs and fantastic memories of these trips, thanks to Julius. Needless to say, I highly recommend him and Wasili and can’t wait to return to Kenya to travel with Julius again. Thank you Julius for an trip, I will never forget.

One of the shapeliest peaks in all the Rift Valley, Mt Longonot (2780m) and its serrated crater rim offers fabulous views. The dormant volcano rises 1000m above the baking-hot valley floor and was formed 400,000 years ago; it last erupted in the 1860s. The park itself covers only 52 sq km and was set up to protect the volcano’s ecosystem and little else. The name ‘Longonot’ comes from the Maasai name Olo Nongot, which means ‘Mountain of Many Summits’.
