Built in 1788, The Georgian Theatre Royal is the UK's oldest working theatre in its original form. We are currently still open for tours, although all live performances have been put on hold for the moment. Guided 'back-stage tours are suitable for children and adults alike and run every hour on the hour (10am until 4pm Monday to Saturday). Our enthusiastic guides will entertain you with the fascinating story of the Theatre as well as providing a colourful insight into life in Georgian England. Find out who has graced the historic stage over the centuries and discover how the early actors lived and worked, walking miles between venues with their families in tow. Come and see why we're consistently number 1 of 'things to do in Richmond' on TripAdvisor!
We visited for a tour of the theatre with our 2 little boys aged 5 &6 having always fancied exploring this historic little gem of a theatre. We were the only ones on our tour and the guide Shiela was absolutely fantastic. She made sure she kept our boys interest with interesting facts and was so patient with answering all of their questions and letting them perform on the stage! She really is a credit to you and made the whole experience one to remember for all of us - please pass on our thanks to her. We loved the theatre so much, we have booked to come and see Aladdin in December - the boys can't wait because they know how it all works now!!

Due to Covid-19, admission is via pre-booked time slot. Quick and easy online booking via our website. 300 years of friendship and adventure, service and sacrifice; our museum presents the history of this illustrious local infantry regiment through the eyes of the soldiers who served. Housed in a former church in the centre of the market place, the galleries . The museum is a light, bright, place with loads to discover for all the family and features a range of activities for our younger visitors. The collection includes equipment, artwork, silver, medals (including Victoria Crosses) uniforms and personal items donated to the regiment throughout the centuries. We also run education, community events and activity programmes, and have a great gift shop; perfect for picking up a present, or a treat for yourself. Our special exhibition, Treasures in Store, which includes objects from the collection which have never before been on display, runs until 19 December.
A very friendly welcome and then a very informative museum spaced out on three floors. The history of the regiment was very well depicted and it was extra special as one of my friends was a Major in the Regiment. Well worth visiting.

Visit 'The UK's Most Popular Selling Published Artist 2018' here in Richmond, North Yorkshire. The Lucy Pittaway Art Gallery showcases original works of art, prints and canvases by Award Winning Yorkshire Artist Lucy Pittaway. You can also find beautiful gifts such as textiles, quirky ceramics, delightful notebooks, calendars, mugs and more, perfect for gifting or a reminder of your trip to Richmond! Lucy's Artwork lights up the corner of Finkle Street off the market square, with bright and colourful window displays, and helpful staff guaranteed to brighten up your visit to Richmond!
I had seen examples of Lucy Pittaway art in various other galleries in the UK, but hadn’t realised the Richmond connection, so it was a most pleasant surprise to find the gallery and shop as we wandered up Finkle Street. In keeping with the style of her art, the shop is delightfully bright and cheerful, and there is an excellent range of cards, calendars, giftware etc to augment the wide selection of prints. There is also a wide range in pricing, so even if you are on a limited budget, you can find something to buy for yourself or as a gift. Personally, I thought that the prices across the board very very reasonable indeed. This is a lovely place to browse and I would include it in any “must visit” list if you are coming to Richmond.

From 13 April, The Station, including the gallery and shop, will reopen to the public. The Station and The Station Cafe | Bar - including a new takeaway menu and outdoor seating area - will be open 6 days a week (closed Mondays) 10am - 4pm. The toilets will also be open to customers. It is hoped that The Station Cinema will be able to open in May.
On a staycation in York, but having days out, one of which included a day trip to Richmond. As we drove into Richmond, we saw the impressive and sympathetically restored 'The Station' building, sitting near the banks of the River Swale. We parked up, went for a lovely long walk along the river and viewed lots of new born lambs. On our return we called into The Station for a look around at the art works on display. We enjoyed a great value and great tasting cup of filter coffee, freshly baked and tasty lemon drizzle cake and carrot cake. Excellent friendly customer service in the cafe, with staff unobtrusively buzzing around clearing tables and cleaning them. There was an amazing Alice in Wonderland knitted display all along the banister rails. We sat there trying to identify the individual characters. The site offers cinema, paintings, a small brewery and assorted additional shops and there is a swimming pool nearby too. This attraction could well keep children and adults occupied all day. Totally recommended.
