Things to do in Reykjavik, Capital Region: The Best Shopping

December 30, 2021 Claudia Navarrete

Reykjavik bears the distinction of being the world’s northernmost capital, and for many Icelandic visitors it also serves as a gateway to the rugged adventure options beyond. Recharge after outdoor pursuits in one of the many geothermal springs or luxurious indoor spas. We appreciate Reykjavik’s open-minded and energetic culture that includes a hip and internationally recognized music and arts scene, great food and notoriously "enthusiastic" nightlife.

Storkurinn

STORKURINN - yarn shop is in Reykjavik in district 108, about 7-8 min drive from the old town. Our favorite is wool from all over the world, including Icelandic, but we also have silk, cotton, linen and blends. Quilting fabrics, buttons, books, needlepoint and accessories for knitting and other crafts. Easy access and plenty of parking space. The next bus stop is Ármúli-Grensásvegur and from there we are a 5 min walk away. The atmosphere is relaxed and we are willing and able to assist with your knitting problems. Welcome!

I stopped by on a trip to Reykjavik. Love this shop! Beautiful selection of colors, best selection of Icelandic yarns in the city, excellent customer service. Had a cup of coffee with the owner who has a stunning wealth of knowledge and education about wool, patterns, history and all things knitting. I’ll be back.

We loved this mall! It was a typical shopping mall like we would have back home, complete with food court, which is what we had hoped for. It was fun to window shop and go into some of the home goods stores and look at the different items that might be popular with locals in Iceland. I bought some dish towels as a souvenir, that cost less at the mall than would have at a touristy shop downtown.
