As we were checking out things to do in Redlands, California, we stumbled across Caroline Park situated in a residential neighborhood in Redlands. This 16.8-acre park is located between Sunset Drive, Mariposa Drive and Poppy Road in downtown Redlands. It was donated to the City of Redlands in 1929 by Olivia Phelps Stokes in memory of her sister Caroline. When she donated the property (next to their home) to the city, she stipulated the land was to be use as a park and that it was to remain in its natural state as much as possible. In 1987 the park was revegetated with native trees, wildflowers, and shrubs. This small park is a hidden gem well worth visiting. Be advised parking can be difficult. Several short trails are spread out around the park, ideal for a quick jog or a walk. Trail maps are posted through the park. A wide variety of native trees, flowers, and shrubs abound throughout the park. A plethora of wildlife can also be observed. My great granddaughter fell in love with the numerous rabbits and squirrels she observed in the park. She wanted to take them home with her along with the “pretty brown leaves”, she collected during her walk. Many different species of birds, mammals, insects, and reptiles can be seen throughout the park. Sufficient benches are located around the park, ideal for resting your tired feet. Park is dog friendly if you keep your dog on a leash and clean up after him. A peaceful environment with a perfect opportunity to spend some outside time in the sun. There is also a large grassy area as you enter the park. Wife and I spent half an hour playing catch with our 3 year of great granddaughter. Lot of fun. Note: No restrooms or children playground located at this park. Mask wearing and social distancing mandatory within the confines of the park. Ideal way to spend some quality time with the family. Great park.
