In the state of Querétaro there are four archaeological zones, but only one is located within the city. Most people know the importance that Querétaro had in the history of independence, but few people know that since 300 BC it was of great importance for the cultures of the time. Visiting the archeological zone and its museum will allow you to know more about more about its history from those days until today. On the other hand, visiting the Sanctuary will give us the opportunity to admire a totally different style and yet realize that, over time, man has always felt the need to connect spiritually

8. Canada de la Virgen Pyramids and San Miguel de Allende

Aaron Trejo

We will start our tour in San Miguel de Allende, and after a 30 minutes trip we'll get to Canada de la Virgen. There, we'll be taken by a small bus close to the pyramids, then we walk 1 kilometer (3,300 feet) to get there. The tour in the pyramids is walking and has a duration of two hours, including the bus shuttle. When we finish the tour, we walk back to the bus that will take us to our vehicle. We'll go to Rossana's place to have lunch made with local ingredients that have been used by the natives for hundreds of years, plus handmade tortillas and food made by local people who know how to mix all these ingredients to make a delicious meal. At the restaurant there is a small museum exhibiting photos, where we can have a better understanding about the relation between the pyramids in Canada de la Virgen with the sun and the moon. After lunch we head back to San Miguel de Allende to see the highlights of the city in a 2 hours tour.

Inclusions: Driver/guide, Local guide, Transport by private vehicle, Entrance fee to the pyramids.

Exclusions: Lunch

Did two tours with Aaron in Queretaro, the city walking tour and the wine and cheese tours. His english is excellent and his knowledge of the region and its history wonderful. He regaled us with stories of the history of the region, but was also a wealth of knowledge of the businesses and economic engines of the region. He drove us for the wine tour in his newish Nissan. He is a careful solid driver and we felt comfortable the whole day. We especially enjoyed the town of Bernal and the Freixenet winery. We felt very well cared for the entire time with Aaron. Would strongly recommend him and his tours and plan to come back one day to further explore the region.

This was a beautiful area of Mexico. We would have enjoyed it a whole lot more if it had been in English as we had been told. Signed up for an English guide and got a guide who only spoke Spanish. AND it was not just us, though in the description it says it is privare. If you plan to go, be sure you are informed in advance what to expect. You will walk over slippery paths and through sometimes thigh-high rapids. You will want water shoes and maybe a change of clothes. We weren’t given any of this information when we signed up. The night before, we were told the tour would be leaving at 6:45 instead of 8 and asked if we had water shoes... a little late!
