Île aux Lièvres, an incredible hiker’s paradise!Tapered at the ends, this island reminds some of a ship, while others consider it the world’s smallest continent! An impressive 13 kilometers in length, it cannot be fully explored in one day. Discover natural lookouts, explore deserted beaches edged in brier roses, find a seal dozing on the upper part of the beach… Both wild and inviting, Île aux Lièvres will enchant you.Ten kilometers across the water from Rivière du Loup, Île aux Lièvres is one of the best kept secrets of the estuary! Get there in just twenty minutes aboard a Duvetnor boat. The network of hiking trails is vast and diverse (45 km), with trails ranging in difficulty from novice to expert, the level of each clearly marked on the map you will receive upon landing. As a bonus, there are no dangerous animals, no stinging plants (no poison ivy, in particular), and far fewer mosquitoes than on the coast. Plus, refreshing ocean breezes, dwarf forests, escarpments, endless beaches, driftwood… And yes-scores of memories to be made (camera a must)!

Who knew you could find Alpacas in Canada? This was part of a great tour from our Cunard cruise. Unlike llamas, alpacas are gentle, friendly animals. I loved filming them up close, feeding them and watching a young one nurse. A terrific experience. I also bought some yarn for a Christmas gift.

With an area of 50 hectares, the Centre de la nature is one of the most remarkable urban parks of the Greater Montreal area. The park offers a myriad of attractions, outdoor activities and cultural events throughout the year.
This is an excellent family outing. You can experience a taste of nature in a beautiful setting that will allow you to walk scenic paths, visit farm animals and also enjoy live symphony music at the large climate controlled greenhouse. Quite impressive, especially in the winter. The park has been the setting for numerous wedding photos over the years. Winter also allows you to skate on natural ice. This same frozen pond converts to a summertime haven for canoeing, kayaking. A small snack bar is onsite. The summertime evening concerts are a big attractions; all free of charge.

This park was one of the highlights of our trip to Canada. We had been bemoaning the fact that we hadn’t seen much wildlife whilst travelling around Canada and we’d been driving around for over a month. Well... we got our wish to see some when we visited this park. It was the Thanksgiving Long weekend and we thought it would be crowded, which it definitely was, but it didn’t really matter. The 5 species of deer that roam free in the park, as well as the bison, had voracious appetites for the carrots we, and every other vehicle entering the park, had bought to feed them. They have no fear of humans and come right up to your window, often sticking their heads right in, to get your “offerings” and are extremely gentle and delicate in their acceptance. You can pat them and give them a gentle scratch while they’re chowing down. You’ll also see black wolves, arctic wolves, arctic foxes, mountain goats, a moose, coyotes and bears- cinnamon and black, though these are kept behind fences for the protection of you and your vehicles. But you still can get quite close to them. You can drive around the very large park as many times as you like. We went around twice and went through 3 large bags of carrots, and had a wonderful time doing it, with lots of great photos To remember the day. We didn’t have any kids but there are heaps of things for the little ones as well to keep them entertained all day. The time flew by and it was a shock to see we had been there for over 4 hours. If you get the chance, add this to your bucket list. Lynette
