Punta del Este is known as the St. Tropez of Uruguay, thanks to its beautiful beaches, upscale resorts and swanky nightclubs. The Vegas-style Conrad Casino adds to the lively entertainment scene. For a break from surf and sand, saddle up with a local gaucho and ride horseback through the wild plains surrounding the city.

My husband and I booked the Best Private and Personalized City Tour in Montevideo for cruise passengers as we had never been to that city. I was able to stay in contact with the tour operator through WhatsApp which gave me an extra layer of comfort. Our tour guide Alvaro picked us up on time right outside of the cruise terminal. His English was great and he was very knowledgeable about the city. Everywhere we went, someone knew him! He spoke about the history of his city, showed us the old town, the historical rich area, government buildings, beautiful architecture, and of course all of the main attractions. We also escaped the downtown area for a bit and explored the beautiful beaches and the area where many of the embassies are located. Overall we were very happy with this tour and because of the personalized aspect of it, we were able to venture and see areas that appealed to us more. I believe that we got to see double the amount of attractions and probably learnt more about the history and day-to-day life of Uruguay than any tour we would have booked on the ship. Alvaro dropped us off at the Meat Market where we tried some of the local BBQ before we headed back onto the ship. We arrived with plenty of time to spare and enjoyed the entire day. Thank you Andres and Alvaro for everything.

The winery was excellent and we really enjoyed the wines and the food. However the tour of the City was boring and too long wasted too much time going around and not enough time in the winery. Our bus driver got lost and did not explain what was going on. If on a cruise book the winery you can see the city on your own or the hop on hop off.
Luxury Punta del Este and José Ignacio. It is not a traditional tour, it is an experience of the best we have in the East. It was designed for demanding tourists looking to be surprised by a wonderful place between nature and luxury.

Mauro, our guide, driver and native to Montevideo, was very informative! His English was perfect! Because is was a private tour we could get out and shop at the markets for a few trinkets or browse through the church a bit longer and not worry. South Experiences specialises in cruise passengers so no worries about the ship docking late or getting back to the ship on time as they are totally flexible! At one point Mauro realised that the dry air was giving me a dry throat and he stopped to buy water and Halls to smooth my throat! Awesome! Thanks for a fabulous tour!
