The atmosphere is very much like how it was in the old markets in London- Smithfields etc. There is a downmarket area for the poor but there is also a very nice food hall full of fantastic fresh products that you can buy & eat. Pastry shops, delicatessens, & ice cream counters, as well as bars. Well worth the trip on the tram but also not far from the Palace. Go early though.
