We booked a lunch and tour at Valle Dell’Acate and it turned into a most memorable experience. The drive from Motica was about an hour long and after turning off of the highway, the road got funkier and the scenery more gorgeous by the minute. When we arrived Davide greeted us and took us for a brief tour of the century old facility. Rather than a tasting, we had booked lunch, as Davide was a personal chef. The meal which was absolutely wonderful included a tomato and goat cheese starter, spaghetti with shrimp and a divinely tender steak with grilled onion kebabs. The superb dessert was a chocolate cake with olive oil and sea salt and of course we enjoyed a bottle of their Grillo white wine and a lovely Nero D’Avola blend. But to cap off our perfect day, as we drove away, we immediately noticed that we had a flat tire on our rental car. Davide and another gentleman that worked at the vineyard helped us jack up our car, negotiate with the rental car company and made sure we got back on the road safely. I highly recommend Valle Dell’Acate as a tasty, Sicilian adventure when visiting southern Sicily.

Visit Of The Wine-factory. Explanation Of The Winemaking Process. Conventional And Biological Wine Tastings With Sicilian Typical Products. Wonderful Location With Views On Scicli From The High.
Attended a wine tasting here this evening. Short tour of a small wine making plant then sat in their beautiful terrace for a wonderful dinner accompanied by 6 different wines all of which were delicious. We’ve left with 9 litres of wine! The whole experience was an absolute bargain at €18 per head. Best night of our trip so far. Definitely worth travelling to if you’re in Sicily

The Azienda Agricola Poggio di Bortolone was founded by the Cosenza Family at the end of the eighteenth century, immediately after Sicily’s transition out of feudalism and the annexation by mainland Italy. Since that time it has been passed down from father to son and today Pierluigi Cosenza, Ignazio's son, is the current owner and manager of the Poggio di Bortolone Estate. Whilst embracing the long established Family traditions, introducing fresh and innovative ideas to build on the successes of the past. The land has been used for the cultivation of grapes, olives and wheat over many centuries and today the winery's ancient wooden press and traditional oil mill are to be found amongst the relics of bygone days to remind visitors of the proud origins of the Estate. The old and now redundant limestone watermill, beside the river Para Para, is being lovingly restored to its former splendour and is yet another reminder of past traditions which continued right up Word War II
If you are looking for one vineyard to visit for a tasting, this is the one! We called last-minute during harvest season, and even though they were very busy they still made time to receive us for a tasting the same afternoon even though we called the same day (tip: do call beforehand and let them prepare amply!) . They were very friendly and we got to hear a lot about the history of the area and of the grapes of the area. We had a great tasting of the wines they produce there with some very very tasty sicilian dishes which were sooo good, probably because of the locally sourced ingredients. And the wines are amazing, their frapatto is exactly the light bodied fruity wine I have always been searching for. We ended up buying a case of wine even though we didnt really have the space for it in our luggage, it was that good. I actually tried another cerasuolo di vittoria docg from another vineyard later on in my trip, and the one I had here was definitely much better. If you visit please do take his card and let him ship straight to you, I'm going to do the same as soon was we get through our case :)

Faultless. Brilliant tour and introduction to the vines and biologico method of Occhipinti. Informative, educational, cultural. This is how to do a tour. Feel privileged to have visited. Plus the wines are fantastic.

Our rooms were so well thought out, the food cooked by Angela was first rate served in quite the biggest space we have ever eaten in. A combined lounge dining area and kitchen with giant vaulted ceilings. Biagio conducted a thoroughly interesting tour of the winery which has a whole area dedicated to the most original of wine making. His expertise and enthusiasm was so good. The “amphora” wines are a whole new experience. The area around the main house are most attractive and the swimming pool is a real bonus. Go there!
