I attended the school and stayed at the hotel for 2 weeks. My teacher Anna was the best teacher I've ever had. I was at an advanced level but hadn't spoken in a long time and Anna was able to work with me and figure out what I needed to learn to advance. And it was also just really fun to talk with her and do things together. When I was there, the group at the school was small and felt very friendly and like a family. The hotel is beautiful and really comfortable and the staff is amazing! They go out of their way to help you with anything you need. They helped me with all my travel arrangements and whenI had a serious problem with my passport, they went out of their way to help me take care of it! I highly recommend the school and hotel!

All about the coconut palm. In an entertaining and educational way, the activity transmits popular and scientific knowledge of the coconut - from the coconut palm, through the ripening stages, to the processing; showing the great variety of processing (edible, industrial, cosmetic, handcrafted) of this 100% usable tropical plant.

Make your own chocolate in this fun, informative hands on workshop. Starting with the cacao tree, you’ll learn the history, culture and traditional uses of this amazing tree. Then it’s back to the kitchen to make chocolate from a 2,000 year old recipe. Participate in every step of the process, from roasting, grinding, winnowing and milling. From the fresh fruit to wrapping your own finished bar!
I had a lovely time in the Talamanca Chocolate workshop. Ancel, the owner, is delightful and a fountain of chocolate knowledge (pun intended). Ancel will walk you through the bean to bar experience starting with her beautiful cacao orchard. You will learn how to roast, winnow(remove shells) and grind cacao beans all the while tasting the many varieties of delicious Talamanca chocolate. Spending time with Ancel and eating Talamanca chocolate was the highlight of my Puerto Viejo trip.

With a background in teaching, a love of chocolate and an overwhelming desire to share the delicious art and science of chocolate with the world, I’ve been offering chocolate making workshops for a few years now. Working with the tree, the beans and the stories and myths that surround this magical fruit, it’s hard not to fall in love with the seriously great chocolate we’ll make in class. Come with curiosity about this popular food and leave with a new appreciation of what real chocolate is!

We're a Latin rhythms dance academy on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. We teach Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Cumbia, and Boledo. In our classes we go step by step and start with the timing or specified rhythm, then warm up with some open steps, next comes turns, and lastly partner work. We love to teach and love spreading the joy of dance here in Puerto Viejo!
